Summary

The Safety Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining the company's environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs across all company locations. This position ensures compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations while fostering a proactive safety culture throughout the organization. The Safety Coordinator partners with management and employees to reduce workplace hazards, investigate incidents, conduct training, and ensure all facilities maintain a safe and compliant work environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain company-wide safety programs and policies.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, Cal/OSHA, EPA, and all applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations.
  • Conduct routine safety inspections and audits at all company locations.
  • Identify workplace hazards and recommend corrective and preventative actions.
  • Investigate all workplace accidents, injuries, near misses, and property damage incidents.
  • Complete root cause analyses and ensure corrective actions are implemented and documented.
  • Maintain OSHA 300 Logs and all required safety documentation.
  • Coordinate workers' compensation claims, accident reporting, and return-to-work safety requirements with Human Resources.
  • Develop and deliver new hire safety orientation and ongoing employee safety training.
  • Schedule and facilitate required annual safety training, including forklift certification, PPE, hazard communication, lockout/tagout, emergency response, and other regulatory training.
  • Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and ensure proper chemical labeling and storage.
  • Conduct Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) for existing and new processes.
  • Participate in facility, equipment, and process reviews to identify potential safety risks before implementation.
  • Monitor contractor safety compliance while on company property.
  • Coordinate emergency preparedness activities including evacuation drills, fire extinguisher inspections, and emergency response planning.
  • Assist management with ergonomic evaluations and injury prevention initiatives.
  • Track safety metrics, trends, and key performance indicators.
  • Prepare monthly safety reports for leadership.
  • Lead or participate in Safety Committee meetings.
  • Maintain required safety records, inspection reports, training documentation, and regulatory files.
  • Assist with ISO 9001, customer audits, and other compliance audits as they relate to safety.
  • Travel between company locations as needed to perform inspections, training, investigations, and support operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and workplace safety standards.
  • Experience conducting workplace investigations and root cause analyses.
  • Ability to interpret and apply federal, state, and local safety regulations.
  • Excellent organizational and documentation skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to present training to employees at all organizational levels.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience maintaining confidential employee and incident records.

Education and Experience

  • Associate’s degree in occupational safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Safety, or a related field preferred.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of three years of manufacturing safety experience preferred.
  • Multi-site manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Experience working with OSHA inspections and workers' compensation claims preferred.

Certifications and Licenses

  • OSHA 30-Hour General Industry
  • First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor or Certification

Must possess a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities but serves as the company's subject matter expert for workplace safety and provides guidance to managers and supervisors regarding safety compliance.

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret safety regulations, technical procedures, governmental regulations, and company policies. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and training materials. Ability to effectively present information to employees, supervisors, regulatory agencies, and leadership.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate percentages, ratios, measurements, incident rates, and analyze safety statistics. Ability to interpret charts, graphs, and trend reports.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, perform root cause analyses, and develop practical corrective actions. Ability to make sound decisions in emergency situations.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to:

  • Walk through manufacturing facilities and warehouses.
  • Stand for extended periods.
  • Climb stairs and ladders.
  • Bend, kneel, stoop, and reach.
  • Occasionally lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Work in varying temperatures, including warehouse and production environments.
  • Travel between company locations as needed.

Work Environment

The work environment includes office, warehouse, and manufacturing settings. The employee will regularly be exposed to moving mechanical equipment, forklift traffic, noise, dust, and varying temperatures. Appropriate PPE is required in designated production areas.
