Job Overview
Madison Approach Staffing is recruiting for a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) to join our client's large hospital system. This role will provide comprehensive psychosocial services to patients and families. The ideal candidate will conduct rapid biopsychosocial assessments, collaborate with physicians and nursing staff, address immediate psychosocial needs, and coordinate follow-up care for patients. This position works the day shift (8:30am-5:00pm) and requires the ability to manage high-acuity situations in a fast-paced setting. This is a temporary assignment with immediate start through January.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide immediate crisis intervention counseling to patients and families experiencing acute emotional distress, trauma, or emergencies
  • Collaborate with physicians, psychiatric consultation services, and nursing staff to develop appropriate treatment and disposition plans for patients in crisis
  • Connect patients with community resources including mobile crisis teams, crisis hotlines, outpatient services, and treatment programs
  • Assist patients experiencing homelessness with access to emergency shelter, housing assistance programs, and social services
  • Provide support and resources to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and elder abuse; make appropriate referrals to law enforcement and protective services when indicated
  • Screen patients for social determinants of health including food insecurity, housing instability, financial hardship, and lack of insurance coverage
  • Facilitate emergency placement for vulnerable adults and children requiring protective services or alternative living arrangements
  • Coordinate follow-up care and community resources for patients being discharged from the Emergency Department
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all assessments, interventions, safety plans, and referrals in electronic health record system
  • Collaborate with case management, utilization review, and hospital administration regarding complex patient situations
  • Provide education to patients and families regarding mental health resources, substance use treatment options, and available community support services
Required Skills & Experience
  • Licensure: Current and valid Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) license in New York State
  • Education: Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from a CSWE-accredited program
  • Experience: Minimum 2-3 years of social work experience, preferably in emergency department, psychiatric emergency services, or crisis intervention setting
  • Resource Knowledge: Strong knowledge of community mental health resources, crisis services, substance use treatment programs, domestic violence services, and emergency assistance programs
  • Documentation: Proficiency with electronic health record systems and ability to maintain thorough, accurate clinical documentation under time pressure
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to interact effectively with patients in crisis, distressed families, law enforcement, and emergency medical staff
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Proven ability to work collaboratively with ED physicians, nurses, security staff, and psychiatric consultants
  • Cultural Competency: Demonstrated ability to work sensitively with diverse populations including patients with mental illness, substance use disorders, trauma histories, and complex psychosocial needs
  • Independent Judgment: Strong clinical judgment and ability to make rapid assessments and decisions independently during evening hours
Work Schedule & Details
  • Day shift: 8:30am - 5:00pm
  • Monday through Friday, may include weekend shifts depending on department needs
  • On-site position in Valhalla, NY
  • Temporary assignment: Immediate start through January 2027
  • Fast-paced, high-acuity environment requiring ability to manage multiple crises simultaneously
  • Requires flexibility to respond to urgent psychiatric emergencies and high-risk situations throughout the shift
  • May involve interaction with law enforcement, security personnel, and agitated or potentially aggressive patients
