Description:INCUMBENTS ONLYLocations: Altus AFB
  • Performs scheduled, preventive, and unscheduled maintenance.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and associated systems.
  • Determines mechanical condition of vehicles using visual, auditory, and test-equipment-based analysis.
  • Diagnoses and repairs electrical, emissions, and fuel-delivery systems; removes and installs electrical components.
  • Removes, disassembles, repairs, and reinstalls gasoline, diesel, and alternative-fuel engines and components.
  • Designs and manufactures mounted equipment such as seats, pintle hook mounts, and towing connections.
  • Performs oxyacetylene, gas-shielded, and arc welding to repair vehicle parts and accessories.
  • Cuts, grinds, bevels, and installs laminated automotive glass and Plexiglas; replaces curved glass with factory components.
  • Supports the operation and readiness of C-17 cargo compartment and loadmaster training devices.
  • Inspects and evaluates vehicles and equipment to determine repair needs or disposition.
  • Ensures shop equipment is inspected, unserviceable tools are removed, and hazardous waste procedures are followed.
  • Performs corrosion control, winterization, storage, and shipment inspections.
  • Calibrates pumps, meters, proportioning devices, and limiting devices.
  • Adjusts clutches, drive chains, tension devices, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, and control linkages.
  • Aligns bearing loads, gear tooth contact, backlash; times injection pumps and accessory gear trains.
  • Maintains accurate maintenance records, work orders, and equipment documentation.
  • Coordinates with instructors and other program personnel to support training requirements.
  • Ensures maintenance activities are completed safely and in accordance with established procedures.
  • Assists with equipment modifications, repairs, and configuration changes as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Candidate must currently be sitting in the position to be considered for this role.
  • Candidate must currently be performing the duties and responsibilities associated with the position.
  • Position requires a Technical College Degree or certificate in automotive, diesel, mechanical, electrical, electromechanical, aviation maintenance, or a related technical field.
  • 2 years of related hands-on experience, or an equivalent combination of technical education and related work experience totaling a minimum of 4 years.
  • Previous experience maintaining military vehicles, heavy equipment, aircraft support equipment, or C-17 training devices is preferred.
  • Must be proficient in the use of hand tools, power tools, and applicable test equipment.
  • Skilled in welding, metalworking, and use of specialized tools and lubricants.
  • Ability to interpret layout drawings, schematics, diagrams, and technical publications required.
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills required.
  • Candidate must meet all applicable position, program, and site requirements.
