Position Overview
The Production Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily food manufacturing operations, ensuring production goals are met while maintaining high standards for safety, quality, sanitation, regulatory compliance, and employee performance. This role leads production associates in a fast-paced, unionized environment and works closely with cross-functional teams to resolve issues, improve processes, and support efficient operations.
This is a temporary assignment working August 31st to October 31st with no anticipated extension or conversion to permanent employment.
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 4:00 a.m.–12:30 p.m. Candidates must be available for Saturday work and overtime as needed.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities- Lead, supervise, and support production associates to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant operations.
- Ensure adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), sanitation requirements, and established production procedures.
- Monitor cleanliness and hygiene standards throughout production areas.
- Conduct performance evaluations, provide coaching and feedback, and administer corrective action when necessary.
- Train new employees and provide ongoing development to improve employee skills and performance.
- Monitor product quality and address issues that may impact food safety, consistency, or customer requirements.
- Track, manage, and audit raw materials and finished goods inventory.
- Coordinate with supply chain and other departments to support appropriate inventory levels and production needs.
- Identify process improvement opportunities and implement scalable solutions that improve efficiency and reduce waste.
- Apply Lean Manufacturing principles to improve workflow, productivity, and operational performance.
- Enforce workplace safety requirements and conduct safety training for production employees.
- Ensure compliance with applicable OSHA, EPA, FDA, USDA, HACCP, and other food manufacturing requirements.
- Collaborate with Quality, Logistics, Maintenance, Supply Chain, and other cross-functional partners to maintain smooth operations.
- Communicate production priorities, issues, and expectations clearly and professionally.
- Troubleshoot production issues and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Coordinate equipment maintenance and respond quickly to equipment issues to minimize production downtime.
- Maintain accurate production records, documentation, and reports.
- Prepare and communicate production metrics and operational results to management.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED required; college degree preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience within a food production or food manufacturing environment.
- Food manufacturing experience is required.
- Dairy manufacturing experience strongly preferred.
- At least 1 year of experience applying Lean Manufacturing principles.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and direct a diverse, unionized workforce.
- Strong leadership, coaching, employee development, and performance management skills.
- Knowledge of GMP, food safety, sanitation, and regulatory requirements within a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to identify operational problems, determine appropriate corrective actions, and drive continuous improvement.
- Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, with the ability to learn additional business and production systems.
- Ability to lift and move up to 60 pounds as required.
- Ability to work in an active food manufacturing environment for the duration of the assigned shift.
- Must be available for overtime and Saturday work based on production needs.
- Must be able to comply with all required food safety, sanitation, PPE, and workplace safety requirements.
