Job Description
Description:
Position Summary
The Terrain Park Crew Member performs field work necessary to deliver a consistent and well-maintained guest experience. The role includes snow and feature work, inspections, documentation, closures, equipment care, and guest communication in an active mountain environment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Construct, shape, rake, salt, mark, repair, and maintain approved jumps, rails, boxes, snow features, entrances, exits, fencing, signage, and park approaches as assigned.
- Complete assigned opening, operating, and closing inspections; identify changes in snow, takeoffs, landings, surfaces, anchoring, clear zones, signage, fencing, and guest flow; record factual findings promptly.
- Take immediate action within training and authority to isolate or close a feature or zone when a potential hazard is identified, then notify the supervisor and support corrective work.
- Perform hand work and operate authorized tools or equipment only after required training, skills verification, and pre-use inspection.
- Assist with feature installation, relocation, removal, snowmaking support, grooming support, event builds, and end-of-season breakdown.
- Install and maintain signs, fencing, pads, bamboo, barricades, and closure devices; confirm they remain visible, secure, and correctly positioned.
- Communicate park status, hazards, completed work, material needs, and equipment concerns clearly by radio, log, and face-to-face handoff.
- Interact professionally with guests, explain closures or park etiquette, and request support for unsafe behavior rather than escalating conflict beyond the role’s authority.
- Maintain clean work areas and secure tools and materials so they do not create hazards for guests or coworkers.
- Report hazards, incidents, near misses, injuries, equipment damage, and guest concerns promptly and accurately.
- Participate in training, daily briefings, inspections, and emergency-response activities as assigned.
- Never open, test, modify, or represent a feature as approved unless authorized under company procedure.
Minimum Qualifications
- At least 18 years old
- Ability to follow detailed instructions, use a radio, complete legible inspection records, and communicate hazards immediately.
- Experience with outdoor labor, snow work, landscaping, construction, resort operations, or another physically demanding team environment.
- Ability to safely access assigned terrain by skiing or snowboarding at the proficiency level established by the employer, where riding is an essential function.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record if operation of company vehicles is assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous terrain-park, grooming, snowmaking, lift, trail, or event-build experience.
- Familiarity with freestyle terrain, feature terminology, park flow, snow shaping, hand tools, and guest etiquette.
- Experience with compact equipment, snowmobiles, utility vehicles, power tools, rigging, or fabrication, subject to required training and authorization.
Physical & Environmental Demands
- Work for extended periods outdoors in cold, wind, snow, freezing precipitation, darkness, bright sun, high elevation, and rapidly changing weather.
- Regularly ski or snowboard, hike, climb, balance, bend, kneel, shovel, rake, push, pull, grip, and perform repetitive work on steep, uneven, or slippery surfaces.
- Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds independently and heavier or awkward items with team or mechanical assistance.
- Wear required PPE and safely work around guests, moving equipment, snowmaking systems, lifts, tools, noise, and reduced visibility.
