About This Role

Croft Christian Academy invites passionate and dedicated individuals to join our team as Substitute Teachers. As a Substitute Teacher, you will provide support to our classrooms, catering to children from 6 weeks to 5 years old. Your primary responsibility will be to maintain a safe, engaging, and Christ-centered environment, substituting for our regular teachers as needed. This role demands flexibility, dependability, and a genuine passion for early childhood education and spiritual growth.

What You'll Do

Key Responsibilities

  • Use appropriate behavior management strategies, including redirection and clear expectations
  • Maintain accurate headcounts and ensure proper supervision at all times
  • Support classroom productivity and maximize learning time through engaging activities
  • Follow all center policies, health and safety procedures, and DSS regulations
  • Be present and dependable to ensure consistency of care for children and staff
  • Participate in assigned trainings or meetings as required
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding staff, children, and family information
  • Support each child’s individual learning and faith journey
  • Provide emotional support by fostering a positive classroom climate and encouraging children’s expression and independence
  • Assist with classroom routines and lesson plan implementation
  • Maintain daily routines and structure
  • Supervise and engage children in play, learning, and Bible-based activities
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment


Requirements

Ability to pass a full background check, including FBI/SLED fingerprinting and Central Registry clearance

High School Diploma or GED (ECD 101 completed or in progress preferred)

Completed and current Health Assessment (including TB test) required

Ability to meet all DSS licensing requirements for childcare staff

Reliable transportation and consistent attendance

Dependable, punctual, and team-oriented

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Prior childcare or classroom experience preferred

Background in Christian education or ministry is a plus

Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. for child safety and emergencies

Flexible availability (as-needed scheduling between 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM)

Ability to quickly adapt to different teaching situations and age groups

Passion for working with children ages 6 weeks to 5 years

Calm under pressure with the ability to think quickly

Must be at least 18 years old



Nice To Haves

Experience with lesson plan implementation or early childhood curriculum

Familiarity with classroom management or behavior guidance strategies (ex: Conscious Discipline)

Comfortable using communication tools or apps (ex: Brightwheel)

Experience working with multiple age groups (infants through preschool)

Bilingual (especially Spanish)

Experience working in a licensed childcare center or preschool

Coursework in Early Childhood Education (ECD 101, CDA, or related field)

Current CPR and First Aid certification
