This Lead Carpenter role oversees a crew of 3–4 team members and performs a wide range of carpentry tasks for both residential and commercial projects. The position focuses on rough and finish carpentry, including roofing, framing, drywall installation, trim work, and cabinet installation, while ensuring high-quality craftsmanship and efficient project execution.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and supervise a team of 3–4 carpenters on residential and commercial construction and restoration projects.
  • Perform rough carpentry tasks, including framing stud walls and roughing in roofing structures.
  • Install and hang drywall in accordance with project specifications and building standards.
  • Execute finish carpentry work, including trim carpentry, detailed woodwork, and final fit and finish.
  • Install cabinets and related fixtures with precision, ensuring proper alignment and secure mounting.
  • Interpret and work from blueprints, drawings, and measurements to plan and complete carpentry tasks accurately.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and tape measures safely and effectively to complete daily tasks.
  • Support restoration work related to fire, water, storm, and other property damages, ensuring structures are properly repaired and restored.
  • Coordinate daily work activities, assign tasks to crew members, and monitor progress to meet project timelines.
  • Inspect completed work for quality, accuracy, and adherence to project requirements.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a safe, clean, and organized condition.
  • Travel to job sites within approximately an hour of the main location as project needs require.
  • Communicate clearly with team members, other trades, and site contacts to ensure smooth project workflow.
Essential Skills
  • At least 5 years of experience in carpentry, including both rough and finish work.
  • Strong finish carpentry skills, with the ability to deliver high-quality trim and detailed woodwork.
  • Hands-on experience with framing, including stud wall construction and structural layout.
  • Experience installing and working with cabinets and trim in residential and commercial settings.
  • Proficiency in rough carpentry tasks such as roofing and structural framing.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings.
  • Skilled in hanging drywall and preparing surfaces for finishing.
  • Competence in using a wide range of hand tools and power tools safely and efficiently.
  • Accurate measurement skills using tape measures and other measuring tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate a small crew on active job sites.
  • Capability to travel up to an hour to various job locations as needed.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience in commercial construction environments, including working on occupied or operational facilities.
  • Background in residential construction and remodeling projects.
  • Exposure to restoration work involving fire, water, storm, and other damage-related repairs.
  • Ownership of a standard set of carpentry tools, in line with the required tools list provided before interview or start.
  • Strong problem-solving skills for addressing on-site construction and restoration challenges.
  • Effective communication skills for coordinating with team members and other trades.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining a collaborative approach with the crew.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Walker, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $30.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
