Job Title: Housekeeper – Linen Services

Job Description

The housekeeper in linen services plays a key role in ensuring hospital units are consistently stocked with clean linens. Each morning, you will help collect soiled linens, load them for transport to be cleaned, receive and unload freshly laundered items, and organize them in the linen department’s storage area. You will stock linen carts, deliver and replenish supplies on hospital floors to established par levels, and accurately track and record linen inventory at each delivery point using an iPad-based system. This position is largely independent and requires a reliable, detail-oriented individual who is comfortable working in a fast-paced hospital environment.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and load dirty linens in the morning for transport to the cleaning facility.
  • Unload clean linens from the truck and organize them in the linen department storage room.
  • Stock linen carts with appropriate types and quantities of linens for daily distribution.
  • Deliver linens to designated hospital floors, ensuring storage closets are stocked to par levels.
  • Track the location, quantity, and types of linens unloaded at each delivery point.
  • Enter linen distribution data into the system upon returning to the linen department.
  • Use an iPad to scan bins as they arrive and depart, maintaining accurate electronic records.
  • Distribute additional cleaned linens to specific floors based on daily needs.
  • Regularly stock linen closets on the 9th floor, covering all five designated locations.
  • Work independently for the majority of the day, making quick decisions and adjusting to changing needs.
  • Interact professionally with hospital staff, asking questions and coordinating as needed to ensure proper linen supply.
  • Perform general housekeeping and custodial tasks related to linen handling, including keeping work areas clean and organized.
  • Push, pull, and maneuver linen carts and bins throughout the hospital safely and efficiently.

Essential Skills

  • Ability to stand and walk for a full 8-hour shift.
  • Comfort with frequent pushing, pulling, and lifting while moving linens and carts.
  • Ability to use an iPad or similar tablet device confidently on a daily basis for scanning and tracking.
  • Strong attention to detail for tracking linen types, quantities, and locations.
  • Capability to work independently for most of the day and think on your feet.
  • Personable and professional communication skills for interacting with hospital staff.
  • Experience or aptitude in housekeeping, custodial work, janitorial tasks, or general labor.
  • Reliability and consistency in following established procedures and par levels for stocking.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Stocking or inventory management is beneficial.
  • Experience working in a hospital or healthcare environment is helpful but not required.
  • Comfort working in a basement or back-of-house setting as part of a support department.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively during a busy shift.
  • Basic familiarity with cleaning processes and safe handling of soiled materials.
