General Laborer
Job Description
The General Laborer supports highway and construction projects by preparing and cleaning work sites, assisting equipment operators, and performing a variety of physical tasks to keep operations running safely and efficiently. This role involves working outdoors in all weather conditions, using hand and power tools, and closely following safety procedures around traffic and heavy machinery.
Responsibilities- Prepare and clean construction sites by clearing debris, organizing materials, and ensuring work areas remain safe and accessible.
- Assist equipment operators by maintaining clear communication, spotting, and helping guide machinery movements in active work zones.
- Support general construction activities, including digging, grading, moving materials, and completing tasks assigned by supervisors for roadway, drainage, and structural work.
- Handle and operate hand and power tools safely and effectively to perform basic construction and carpentry tasks.
- Measure and mark materials accurately using tape measures to support concrete, carpentry, and highway construction work.
- Work safely around traffic and heavy equipment by staying alert, maintaining awareness of surroundings, and following strict safety protocols.
- Follow all safety procedures and participate in required safety training to maintain a secure work environment for yourself and the team.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area throughout the shift.
- Collaborate with supervisors and crew members to complete daily work plans and meet project timelines.
- Experience performing general labor in construction or related environments.
- Ability to work safely around active traffic and heavy machinery.
- Proficiency using hand tools such as hammers, shovels, and basic carpentry tools.
- Proficiency using power tools safely and effectively for construction tasks.
- Ability to read and use tape measures accurately for measuring and marking materials.
- Comfort working on highway construction projects, including grading, concrete, and carpentry support.
- Strong awareness of safety practices and willingness to follow safety procedures at all times.
- Physical ability to perform moderate to heavy labor, including lifting, bending, twisting, kneeling, crawling, climbing, and squatting regularly.
- Previous experience on roadway, drainage, or structural construction projects is beneficial.
- Experience working around heavy equipment and in active construction zones.
- Willingness to attend required safety and operational training sessions.
- Reliability and strong work ethic in a field-based, outdoor work setting.
- Ability to communicate clearly with supervisors and equipment operators.

Job Type & LocationThis is a Permanent position based out of Providence Forge, VA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $39520.00 - $52000.00/yr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
