This role focuses on MIG welding and fabrication of a variety of components, taking projects from initial blueprint through to finished product. You will work on both custom and production welding jobs, maintaining tight tolerances and ensuring high-quality, structurally sound welds.

Responsibilities
  • Perform MIG welding on a range of components, ensuring strong, clean, and consistent welds.
  • Carry out fabrication work, including cutting, forming, and assembling metal parts according to project specifications.
  • Read and interpret blueprints with confidence to take projects from start to finish with minimal supervision.
  • Fit and weld custom jobs, adapting techniques as needed to meet unique project requirements.
  • Execute production welding tasks while maintaining efficiency and quality standards.
  • Maintain tolerances typically within 1/16 inch to meet precise fabrication requirements.
  • Use press brake and other fabrication equipment to form and shape metal components as required.
  • Measure and verify dimensions using tape measures and other hand tools to ensure accuracy.
  • Work with structural steel, stainless steel, and other materials, selecting appropriate welding processes such as MIG and flux core.
  • Perform fitting and assembly of components prior to welding to ensure proper alignment and structural integrity.
  • Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area in the shop.
  • Collaborate with team members in a small shop environment to meet production deadlines and quality expectations.
Essential Skills
  • 4–5+ years of MIG welding experience, with strong, consistent weld quality.
  • 4+ years of fabrication experience working with metal components and assemblies.
  • 3+ years of blueprint reading experience, with the ability to confidently interpret and follow detailed drawings.
  • Proficiency in MIG welding techniques for various materials, including structural steel and stainless steel.
  • Experience with flux core welding processes as required by specific jobs.
  • Hands-on experience with press brake operation for forming and bending metal parts.
  • Strong blueprint reading skills, including understanding dimensions, tolerances, and weld symbols.
  • Ability to maintain tight tolerances, typically within 1/16 inch, throughout the fabrication and welding process.
  • Skilled in fitting components prior to welding to ensure accurate alignment and structural soundness.
  • Proficient use of tape measures and related measuring tools to verify dimensions and tolerances.
  • Capability to work in a plug-and-play fashion, stepping into the role with minimal training and guidance.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Demonstrated confidence in working independently from blueprints to complete projects from start to finish.
  • Experience in both custom fabrication work and production welding environments.
  • Ability to work with structural steel and stainless steel in a variety of applications.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality, with a focus on meeting or exceeding project specifications.
  • Solid understanding of basic shop safety practices and willingness to follow established procedures.
  • Comfort working in a small team environment and contributing to a collaborative shop culture.

Work Environment

This is a first-shift position in a 10-person shop, with standard hours from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and flexibility as needed. The team is currently working 9-hour days with optional 5-hour Saturdays, providing opportunities for additional hours. The environment is a hands-on fabrication and welding shop where you will use equipment such as MIG welders, flux core welding setups, press brakes, and standard measuring tools like tape measures. Work is performed on structural steel, stainless steel, and other metals, requiring attention to safety, precision, and cleanliness in the shop.

This is a Contract position based out of Racine, WI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
