Job Description

The Mechanic Installer (Installer Technician Level I) installs custom service bodies and related mechanical and electrical components on pickup trucks. This role focuses on in-place installations rather than assembly line work and requires confident use of hand and power tools, mechanical assembly skills, and 12V electrical wiring capabilities. You will work in an auto shop environment, performing a variety of installation, wiring, and troubleshooting tasks on both small and large parts.

Responsibilities

  • Install custom service bodies and mechanical components on pickup trucks using appropriate hand and power tools.
  • Perform in-place installations rather than assembly line work, ensuring accuracy and quality on each vehicle.
  • Install electrical components, including 12V wiring systems, and assist with troubleshooting and basic repairs.
  • Read and interpret manuals and blueprints to perform mechanical and electrical installations correctly.
  • Measure and mark installation locations using tape measures and other measuring tools to ensure proper fit and alignment.
  • Work underneath trucks to route wiring, mount components, and complete installation tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Handle and install both small and large parts, ensuring secure fastening and proper function of all components.
  • Use tools such as power drills, power impacts, and other shop equipment to complete mechanical assembly work.
  • Assist with sheet metal, duct work, and hydraulic-related tasks as needed in support of vehicle upfitting.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including wearing required personal protective equipment, and maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Collaborate with team members in a fast-paced shop environment to meet production goals and customer expectations.
  • Work outdoors when required to complete installations or move vehicles in and out of the shop.

Essential Skills

  • 2–5 years of experience in mechanical installations, including mechanical assembly and installation work.
  • Proficiency using hand and power tools such as power drills and power impacts for mechanical installation.
  • Ability to read and follow manuals for installation procedures and technical instructions.
  • Experience with 12V electrical wiring, including installation and basic troubleshooting.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with experience working on vehicles or similar mechanical systems.
  • Ability to use tape measures and other basic measuring tools accurately for layout and installation.
  • Capability to work underneath trucks and in confined spaces to perform wiring and installation tasks.
  • Comfort handling both small and large parts and securing them properly during assembly.
  • Willingness and physical ability to work in a fast-paced, hot, and dirty auto shop environment.
  • Commitment to following safety guidelines and wearing required personal protective equipment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with mechanical assembly in an automotive or industrial environment.
  • Familiarity with sheet metal work and duct work related to vehicle or equipment installations.
  • Basic understanding of hydraulics and their application in mechanical systems.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints and technical drawings for installation layout and component placement.
  • Troubleshooting and repair skills related to 12V electrical systems and mechanical assemblies.
  • Interest in cross-training across different installation tasks and systems to expand skill set.
  • Willingness to work overtime when needed, especially during training and peak workload periods.

Why Work Here?

You join a team that values hands-on learning, cross-training, and long-term growth. The environment encourages you to build new installation and wiring skills while gaining experience on a variety of custom vehicle projects. Overtime opportunities during training and beyond allow you to increase your earnings as you develop your expertise. You work alongside a stable team of shop professionals who support each other and share knowledge, helping you grow your career in a practical, skills-focused setting.

Work Environment

The role is based in an auto shop environment that is non-climate controlled, fast-paced, and can be hot and dirty. Work is performed in-place on vehicles rather than on an assembly line, and you collaborate with approximately 35 employees on your shift. You may be required to go outdoors as part of your duties, including moving vehicles or performing certain installation tasks. Personal Protective Equipment is mandatory and includes protective glasses, knee pads, steel-toe boots, hard hat, and gloves when needed.
