Job Description
This role focuses on welding, fitting, and metal fabrication in a custom job shop environment. You will work with a variety of fabrication machinery, interpret mechanical blueprints and welding symbols, and contribute to the manufacture of custom machinery and structural projects from start to finish.
Responsibilities
- Perform welding and fitting tasks for custom machinery and structural projects in a job shop environment.
- Use SMAW, FCAW, and GMAW welding processes in all positions to complete high-quality welds on a variety of materials.
- Operate fabrication machinery such as plate shears, presses, ironworkers, drilling and tapping equipment, plate burning equipment, and plasma cutting systems.
- Safely use handheld oxygen/acetylene torches for cutting and fabrication work.
- Utilize fabrication hand tools, including drills, grinders, cutting tools, squares, and levels, to prepare and finish components.
- Read, interpret, and work from mechanical blueprints, welding symbols, fabrication drawings, and CAD drawings to ensure accurate fabrication.
- Apply proper fabrication techniques to support the manufacture of custom machinery and project-based work.
- Handle and move materials and components using overhead cranes and appropriate rigging techniques in a safe and controlled manner.
- Operate lift trucks up to 8000 pounds safely to transport materials and equipment within the facility.
- Assist with preparation of equipment for painting, including surface preparation and staging of components.
- Support assembly of equipment for shipping, ensuring components are correctly fitted, secured, and documented.
- Participate in testing of equipment to verify performance and quality prior to shipment or installation.
- Travel to customer sites as needed to assist with installation of equipment and ensure proper setup and operation.
- Perform other duties required in daily production to support smooth workflow and on-time project completion.
Essential Skills
- Proficiency in SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding), FCAW (Flux-Cored Arc Welding), and GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) processes in all positions.
- Strong experience in welding and metal fabrication in a custom or job shop environment.
- Ability to read and understand mechanical blueprints, welding symbols, fabrication drawings, and CAD drawings.
- Hands-on experience with fabrication machinery, including plate shears, presses, ironworkers, drilling and tapping equipment, plate burning equipment, and plasma cutting systems.
- Skilled use of handheld oxygen/acetylene torches for cutting and fabrication tasks.
- Proficiency with fabrication hand tools such as drills, grinders, cutting tools, squares, and levels.
- Solid understanding of overhead crane operation and rigging techniques, with a focus on safe use.
- Ability to safely operate lift trucks up to 8000 pounds.
- Knowledge of fabrication techniques involved in the manufacture of custom machinery and structures.
- Attention to detail and ability to follow technical drawings and specifications accurately.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Welding certification, which may be required for certain projects.
- Experience as a welder, fabricator, fitter, or in a similar metal fabrication role.
- Experience in MIG welding and general weld fabrication work.
- Familiarity with preparing equipment for painting and finishing processes.
- Experience with equipment assembly, testing, and installation at customer sites.
- Ability to work on varied custom projects and adapt to changing production needs.
- Strong commitment to safety practices in welding, fabrication, material handling, and equipment operation.

Work Environment
The role is based in a custom job shop setting with a strong focus on fabrication and welding for machinery and structural projects. You will work around heavy fabrication equipment such as plate shears, presses, ironworkers, drilling and tapping stations, plate burning equipment, plasma cutting systems, and overhead cranes. Hand tools including drills, grinders, cutting tools, squares, and levels are used daily, along with handheld oxygen/acetylene torches and lift trucks up to 8000 pounds. The environment is production-oriented, with active fabrication, assembly, testing, and occasional on-site installation at customer locations. Work typically involves standing, lifting, and moving materials, and requires adherence to safety procedures and appropriate protective work attire suitable for welding and fabrication activities.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of PHILOMATH, OR.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $27.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
