Job Description
The CNC Operator works in a fast-paced, loud, and climate-controlled production environment, operating multiple CNC milling machines on A Shift (5:30am–4:00pm, Monday–Thursday). This role focuses on machine setup, tool changes, and thorough quality inspection of finished parts, ensuring all components meet precise specifications and quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Operate multiple CNC milling machines efficiently and safely in a fast-paced production environment.
- Set up CNC machines, including installing and securing tooling, fixtures, and workpieces according to job requirements.
- Perform tool changes as needed to maintain production flow and part quality.
- Adjust machine offsets as required to maintain dimensional accuracy and meet engineering specifications.
- Use edge finders and dial indicators to accurately locate part features and verify machine setup.
- Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to understand part dimensions, tolerances, and machining requirements.
- Conduct quality inspections on finished parts using micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and dial indicators.
- Monitor machine operation and make necessary adjustments to maintain consistent quality and productivity.
- Follow established safety procedures, including wearing required PPE such as safety glasses, hearing protection, and safety shoes.
- Work near moving mechanical parts and in the presence of airborne particles and chemicals while maintaining safe work practices.
- Collaborate with other CNC operators and production staff to support smooth workflow within a large CNC department.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and assist with basic machine care as needed.
Essential Skills
- Experience with machine setup and tool changes, preferably in a production or machining environment.
- Understanding of CNC machine offsets and hands-on experience adjusting them to maintain part accuracy.
- Proficiency using edge finders and dial indicators for setup and verification.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings accurately.
- Skilled in using precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and dial indicators.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, loud manufacturing environment near moving mechanical parts.
- Commitment to following safety procedures and consistently using required personal protective equipment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Machine operator experience with setup and tool change responsibilities, even without direct CNC mill or lathe experience.
- Willingness to learn CNC milling operations and grow into more advanced responsibilities.
- Attention to detail and strong focus on quality and accuracy.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a larger CNC department.
- Reliability in maintaining assigned shift schedule.

Work Environment
The role is based in a climate-controlled, clean manufacturing facility with a fairly large CNC department of approximately 12 operators per shift. The environment is fast-paced and very loud, with regular work near moving mechanical parts and exposure to airborne particles and chemicals. Safety is a priority, and employees are required to wear safety glasses, hearing protection, and safety shoes. Available shifts include A Shift (5:30am–4:00pm, Monday–Thursday), B Shift (4:00pm–2:30am, Monday–Thursday), and C Shift (5:00am–5:00pm, Friday–Sunday, plus 5:00am–10:30am on an additional day), providing flexibility for different scheduling preferences.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of RALEIGH, NC.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $21.00 - $26.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
