Job Title: Architect
We are looking for a seasoned Architect to lead and support architectural projects from early planning and programming through construction administration. This role is instrumental in project delivery, technical leadership, staff development, and client engagement. The ideal candidate is a technically focused architect with experience delivering renovation, modernization, and facility improvement projects within existing building environments.
This opportunity offers exposure to complex projects that require a strong understanding of existing conditions, close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, the ability to navigate site-specific challenges, and the development of practical, effective design solutions.
Key ResponsibilitiesProject Leadership & Design- Lead architectural efforts throughout all project phases, including field assessments, programming, schematic design, design development, construction documentation, and construction administration.
- Manage and execute architectural scopes for renovation, modernization, and building improvement projects.
- Prepare detailed construction document packages and technical drawings.
- Review project specifications to ensure design intent is accurately reflected in all documentation.
- Conduct site investigations, field surveys, and assessments of existing facilities.
- Perform building code, accessibility, and life safety reviews and incorporate requirements into project deliverables.
- Proactively identify constructability concerns, coordination issues, and existing building limitations during project development.
- Work closely with engineers, consultants, contractors, manufacturers, and project stakeholders.
- Maintain quality, consistency, and technical accuracy across all project deliverables.
- Provide design and technical problem-solving support throughout the project lifecycle.
- Offer daily oversight, technical direction, and quality assurance review for architectural team members.
- Coordinate production schedules, staffing needs, and project workloads.
- Support the growth of junior staff through mentoring, coaching, and constructive feedback.
- Foster a collaborative team culture focused on continuous improvement and professional development.
- Review submittals, shop drawings, and material samples for compliance with project requirements.
- Respond to Requests for Information (RFIs) in a timely manner.
- Conduct site observations and monitor construction progress.
- Assist with punch list reviews and project closeout activities.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships through effective communication, responsiveness, and dependable project execution.
- Participate in client meetings and project coordination discussions.
- Help drive successful project outcomes by identifying and addressing challenges and opportunities proactively.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture from an accredited institution.
- 8+ years of professional architectural experience.
- Demonstrated experience leading projects through all phases of design and construction.
- Strong knowledge of building systems, construction practices, and technical detailing.
- Experience working on renovation, modernization, adaptive reuse, or existing-building projects.
- Knowledge of applicable building codes, accessibility regulations, and life safety requirements.
- Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Revit and AutoCAD.

Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of McLean, VA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $38.46 - $48.08/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
