Job Description
This hands-on Maintenance Supervisor / Working Lead role combines strategic leadership with direct technical work in a CNC machining environment. You will oversee maintenance operations, guide and develop maintenance technicians, and remain actively involved in troubleshooting, repairing, and optimizing CNC equipment. The position focuses on building a strong safety culture, driving continuous improvement, and implementing a Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) program to reduce downtime and enhance production efficiency. You will also manage the maintenance budget, coordinate with external vendors, and ensure strict adherence to quality and regulatory standards within a regulated manufacturing setting.
Responsibilities
- Lead, supervise, and mentor the maintenance team, providing day-to-day direction, coaching, and support.
- Act as a working lead by performing hands-on troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair of CNC machining equipment and related systems.
- Implement and sustain a Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) program to minimize equipment downtime and maximize production efficiency.
- Plan, schedule, and oversee preventive maintenance activities for CNC machines and associated equipment.
- Optimize equipment performance by identifying root causes of mechanical and electrical issues and executing effective corrective actions.
- Manage the maintenance department budget, including tracking expenditures and making cost-effective decisions on repairs and upgrades.
- Coordinate and manage vendor relationships for parts, services, and equipment, ensuring timely and quality support.
- Ensure compliance with quality and regulatory requirements, including AS9100 and ITAR standards.
- Promote and enforce a strong safety culture, ensuring maintenance activities follow all safety procedures and guidelines.
- Monitor equipment reliability and maintenance metrics, using data to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with production and engineering teams to support manufacturing goals and resolve equipment-related issues.
- Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance activities, equipment histories, and regulatory compliance records.
Essential Skills
- 8–10+ years of maintenance experience in CNC machining environments.
- Strong working knowledge of mechanical repair concepts for CNC equipment.
- Strong working knowledge of electrical repair concepts and basic electrical troubleshooting.
- Proven experience in maintenance management and team supervision within a manufacturing setting.
- Hands-on experience with CNC machine repair, troubleshooting, and optimization.
- Experience implementing and working with preventive maintenance systems.
- Experience in continuous improvement practices related to equipment reliability and performance.
- Experience in budget management for maintenance operations.
- Comfort working in a regulated manufacturing environment, including AS9100 and ITAR requirements.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working with Haas CNC machines.
- Experience working with Kitamura CNC machines.
- Experience working with Makino CNC machines.
- Experience with Swiss-type CNC machines.
- Experience with grinders in a machining environment.
- Ability to manage vendor relationships and coordinate external maintenance services.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose complex mechanical and electrical issues.
- Ability to foster a culture of safety and continuous improvement within the maintenance team.

Job Type & LocationThis is a Permanent position based out of Grand Rapids, MI.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $100000.00 - $115000.00/yr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
