Job Description
This 2nd OR 3rd shift Maintenance Mechanic role focuses on performing both preventative and reactive mechanical and basic electrical maintenance across a wide range of industrial equipment. You will help keep production running safely and efficiently by maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing equipment such as saws, presses, grinders, conveyors, robots, and related machinery. The position offers a shift premium for off-shifts and the opportunity to work with diverse technologies in a clean, well-organized manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance tasks including lubing, greasing, and inspecting components for wear, damage, or potential problems.
- Conduct mechanical troubleshooting and repairs on hydraulics, pneumatics, motors (up to 400 HP), gears, bearings, fans, and related systems.
- Support maintenance and repair of equipment such as band saws, cut-off saws, horizontal contour cutters, laser cutters, presses up to 20 tons, slitters, 400HP grinders, glue machines, rollers, conveyors, and industrial robots (ABB, Fanuc, Motoman).
- Carry out basic electrical troubleshooting and repairs, including working with 480V 3-phase systems, lockout/tagout (LOTO), using a voltmeter, and checking or replacing breakers, fuses, and sensors.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics to assist in diagnosing and resolving equipment issues.
- Use a tablet to log work orders, repairs, and preventative maintenance activities accurately and in a timely manner.
- Train initially on 1st shift to learn equipment, processes, and safety procedures before moving to 2nd shift.
- Collaborate with other maintenance and production team members to prioritize work, minimize downtime, and support continuous improvement.
- Maintain a safe work area and follow all safety procedures, particularly LOTO practices, when working on energized equipment.
- Use basic hand tools and tool box (with power and specialty tools provided) to perform maintenance tasks effectively.
- Apply good math skills and the ability to read a tape measure to support fabrication, alignment, and precise mechanical work.
- Contribute positively to team culture by demonstrating initiative, reliability, and willingness to support others.
Essential Skills
- At least 3 years of experience performing preventative maintenance, including lubing, greasing, and checking mechanical components for wear or problems.
- At least 3 years of industrial mechanical troubleshooting and repair experience with strong aptitude in hydraulics, pneumatics, motors, gears, bearings, and fans.
- Basic electrical knowledge up to 480V 3-phase, including lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and electrical troubleshooting.
- Ability to read and understand electrical schematics for maintenance and repair work.
- Ownership of basic hand tools and a tool box; ability to effectively use provided power and specialty tools.
- Good math skills and the ability to accurately read a tape measure.
- Ability to use a tablet to log jobs, including work orders, repairs, and preventative maintenance tasks.
- Ability to train on 1st shift before transitioning to 2nd shift.
- Strong initiative, energy, and willingness to be a team player with a stable work history.

Work Environment
This role is on 2nd shift, Monday through Friday, from 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., with a shift premium for off-shifts. The facility is clean, organized, and bright, with machinery, piping, and ceilings painted white to enhance visibility and safety. There is a localized area of the plant where chemicals are used to mix ingredients for foam production, and appropriate safety measures are in place. Employees use tablets to log work and tricycles to move efficiently around the plant. The environment is structured for efficient maintenance operations, with modern equipment and a strong focus on cleanliness and organization.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Elkhart, IN.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $29.15 - $33.88/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
