Job Description

The EVS Housekeeping professional ensures a clean, safe, and sanitary environment throughout the healthcare facility by performing routine, terminal, and isolation cleaning in patient care areas, clinical spaces, and public areas. This role includes high and low dusting, cleaning walls, ceilings, vents, and lighting, maintaining restroom facilities, and providing comprehensive floor care. The position also involves removing and transporting trash and medical infectious waste, moving furniture and equipment, and maintaining cleanliness in areas such as emergency rooms, operating rooms, offices, public restrooms, clinics, nurses’ stations, and exam rooms.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine, terminal, and isolation cleaning in accordance with established healthcare cleaning protocols and infection control standards.
  • Complete high and low dusting, including walls, ceilings, vents, light fixtures, and other environmental surfaces.
  • Clean and disinfect restroom facilities, including toilets, sinks, showers, and associated fixtures, ensuring they remain sanitary and well-stocked.
  • Provide floor care services such as sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, buffing, and vacuuming in patient rooms, corridors, and common areas.
  • Remove, handle, and transport regular trash and medical infectious waste safely and in compliance with facility procedures.
  • Move furniture, equipment, and other items as needed to support cleaning tasks and room setup or turnover.
  • Clean and maintain a variety of areas including emergency rooms, operating rooms, offices, public bathrooms, clinics, nurses’ stations, exam rooms, and other assigned spaces.
  • Use appropriate cleaning agents, tools, and equipment such as buffers, scrubbers, vacuums, and mops in a safe and effective manner.
  • Frequently push, pull, and transport heavy objects, equipment, and furniture to facilitate thorough cleaning.
  • Perform continuous physical position changes, including standing, bending, kneeling, and stooping, to access and clean all environmental surfaces.
  • Climb stepladders when necessary to clean light fixtures, vents, windows, and cubicle drapes.
  • Clean hard-to-reach areas such as bathtubs, shower stalls, plumbing fixtures, stairs, baseboards, furniture legs, and wheels of furniture.
  • Wring out wet mops and remove trash from containers, ensuring proper disposal and cleanliness of receptacles.
  • Carry out constant repetitive hand and arm motions to damp wipe surfaces, run buffers and scrubbers, vacuum, and mop floors.
  • Work in close proximity to patients and hospital staff, maintaining a professional and respectful demeanor at all times.
  • Follow all safety, infection control, and environmental services policies and procedures to minimize risk of exposure and maintain a safe environment.
  • Adhere to facility standards for reliability and consistency by maintaining stable employment patterns and fulfilling scheduled shifts.

Essential Skills

  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds safely and repeatedly throughout the workday.
  • Ability to stand for up to 8 hours per shift while performing cleaning and environmental services tasks.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, hear, and comprehend English to follow instructions, safety protocols, and communicate with staff.
  • Stable work history, with the ability to hold jobs for at least 6 months at a time.
  • Preferred minimum of six months of cleaning or housekeeping experience in roles such as housekeeper, janitor, environmental services worker, caregiver, or custodian.
  • Capability to perform frequent pushing, pulling, and transporting of heavy objects, equipment, and furniture.
  • Comfort working with and near patients and hospital staff in a healthcare environment.
  • Ability to work safely with frequent exposure to medical infectious waste and occasional exposure to exposed patient body parts.
  • Capacity to perform frequent kneeling, stooping, and continuous physical position changes to clean varied surfaces and spaces.
  • Ability to carry out constant repetitive hand and arm motions for damp wiping, buffing, scrubbing, vacuuming, and mopping.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Previous experience in healthcare environmental services or hospital housekeeping is highly beneficial.
  • Background in roles such as housekeeper, janitor, caregiver, custodian, or environmental services staff is preferred.
  • Familiarity with infection control practices and safe handling of medical infectious waste is an advantage.
  • Comfort using cleaning equipment such as floor buffers, scrubbers, vacuums, and mops.
  • Ability to follow detailed procedures and maintain high standards of cleanliness and sanitation.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to providing a clean and safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.

Work Environment

This role is based in a hospital setting in Kenosha, WI, working within medical centers that include patient care areas, clinical spaces, and public zones. The work environment involves regular interaction with patients, nurses, physicians, and other hospital staff, requiring professionalism and respect. The position includes frequent exposure to medical infectious waste, making adherence to safety and infection control procedures essential. Work is physically demanding, with frequent pushing, pulling, and transporting of heavy equipment and furniture, continuous changes in body position, and regular kneeling and stooping to clean surfaces such as bathtubs, shower stalls, stairs, baseboards, and furniture components. Employees occasionally climb stepladders to clean vents, light fixtures, windows, and drapes, and perform constant repetitive hand and arm motions for wiping, buffing, scrubbing, vacuuming, and mopping. The environment is fast-paced and patient-focused, requiring reliable attendance and the ability to remain on one’s feet for extended periods while maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Pleasant Prairie, WI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $15.50 - $17.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
