This role focuses on operating a high-pressure pot liquid painting machine to apply high-quality finishes on structural steel components in a modern manufacturing environment. You will interpret blueprints, follow detailed work procedures, and perform priming, undercoating, and top coat finishing to meet customer specifications and quality standards. The position requires accurate paint mixing and color matching, as well as regular use of a computer to review work instructions, blueprints, due dates, and special requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Operate a high-pressure pot liquid painting machine to apply liquid paint finishes on structural steel components.
  • Read and interpret blueprints to understand painting requirements, specifications, and quality standards for each job.
  • Perform all stages of the painting process, including priming, applying undercoating, and completing top coat finish paint on assembled frames and shells.
  • Mix paints accurately and match colors to meet specific customer requirements and specifications.
  • Use a computer to access and follow work procedures, view blueprints, check due dates, and review special instructions for each project.
  • Conduct quality inspections on painted parts to ensure proper coverage, finish quality, and adherence to specifications.
  • Measure materials and components using a tape measure to verify dimensions and ensure correct application of coatings.
  • Safely learn and operate overhead lifting devices to move and position large structural steel products within the painting area.
  • Apply basic math skills to calculate quantities, coverage, and mixing ratios for paints and coatings.
  • Maintain a clean and organized painting station and work area, supporting a safe and efficient production environment.
  • Collaborate with team members and other departments to meet production schedules and support on-time delivery.
  • Follow all safety guidelines and use proper protective equipment while working around large overhead cranes and painting booths.
Essential Skills
  • At least 1 year of liquid painting experience on structural steel or in a manufacturing facility.
  • Proficiency in industrial liquid painting and finishing processes on large metal components.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints for painting requirements and quality standards.
  • Experience performing quality inspections on painted parts to ensure proper finish and adherence to specifications.
  • Ability to navigate and use a computer to view work procedures, blueprints, due dates, and special instructions.
  • Proficiency in reading and using a tape measure accurately for dimensional verification.
  • Comfort with learning and using overhead lifting devices in a production environment.
  • Ability to perform basic math functions for measurements, paint mixing, and coverage calculations.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Sandblasting experience is a plus and beneficial for surface preparation prior to painting.
  • Experience working in a structural steel or heavy manufacturing environment.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality finished parts.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented production setting.
  • Willingness to learn new processes and equipment as the facility and capabilities grow.

Work Environment

The role is based on a large, open factory and plant floor equipped with substantial overhead cranes throughout the building. Each painting station is spacious to accommodate the size of the structural steel products being coated, and the facility provides good ventilation and a brand-new painting booth. The building is recently constructed and temperature controlled, offering a clean and comfortable workspace. The standard schedule is first shift, Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with overtime available after the shift as needed. The environment supports advancement opportunities within a modern industrial setting where listening to music while working is allowed.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of North Mankato, MN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
