Job Description

This Systems Engineer role supports a high‑profile U.S. Navy weapon system program as part of a prime contractor team. You will focus on system‑level requirements engineering, working with requirements management tools to ensure that complex systems are properly defined, allocated, traced, and verified. The position suits a self‑motivated, proactive professional who plans tasks effectively and communicates clearly with technical teams, leadership, and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Manage system‑level requirements modules in DOORS and similar requirements management databases.
  • Derive child requirements from parent requirements and reference specifications to ensure complete and accurate system definition.
  • Allocate requirements to subsystems and maintain clear, structured relationships between system and subsystem requirements.
  • Perform impact and traceability assessments to understand how changes affect system performance, design, and verification.
  • Engage with system architecture teams to confirm that requirements are feasible, properly implemented, and aligned with overall system design.
  • Collaborate with verification teams to ensure requirements are testable, verifiable, and fully satisfied through appropriate verification methods.
  • Generate clear, organized views and reports of requirements for leadership and stakeholders to support reviews, approvals, and decision‑making.
  • Present requirements status, changes, and analysis results to leadership and stakeholders in a concise and professional manner.
  • Leverage DOORS Extension Language (DXL) to automate, streamline, and enhance requirements management activities.
  • Work closely with internal engineering staff, other contractors, and U.S. Navy Strategic Systems Programs (SSP) customers to coordinate requirements‑related tasks.
  • Plan and prioritize tasks proactively to meet project schedules and program milestones.
  • Communicate effectively in verbal and written form to support collaboration across diverse technical and non‑technical teams.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, or a related field and at least 4 years of related or relevant work experience, or a Master’s degree and at least 2 years of related or relevant work experience.
  • Hands‑on experience with requirements management database tools such as DOORS and similar platforms.
  • Basic knowledge of requirements and their purpose within systems engineering.
  • Understanding of the systems engineering lifecycle and systems engineering technical processes.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to Washington, DC on a weekly basis.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with diverse work teams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and related applications.
  • Self‑motivated and proactive approach to work, with strong task planning capabilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for technical and non‑technical audiences.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience using requirements management tools such as DOORS and JAMA.
  • Familiarity with DOORS Extension Language (DXL) to support automation and customization of requirements workflows.
  • Experience in systems engineering for complex technical programs, particularly in defense or aerospace environments.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with government customers and multi‑organization contractor teams.
  • Attention to detail and strong analytical skills for performing impact and traceability assessments.
  • Comfort presenting technical information to leadership and stakeholders in structured reviews.

Work Environment

This role operates within a structured, systems engineering‑focused environment supporting a major U.S. Navy weapon system program. You will work closely with internal engineering teams, external contractors, and government stakeholders, frequently collaborating across disciplines to manage and analyze requirements. The position involves regular use of requirements management tools such as DOORS and JAMA, along with Microsoft Office for documentation, reporting, and presentations. Weekly travel to Washington, DC is expected to support on‑site meetings and coordination with program stakeholders. The work setting emphasizes professionalism, clear communication, and rigorous adherence to systems engineering processes, offering the opportunity to contribute to complex, high‑impact defense systems.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Rockville, MD.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $75.00 - $75.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
