Job Description
The Production Chemist plays a key role in multi-kilogram chemical synthesis and production of active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) in a GMP-regulated environment. This role focuses on executing batch records, operating and cleaning plant equipment, and supporting R&D API scale-up activities on a rotating 3rd shift schedule. You will initially train on 1st shift, then transition to night shift production, contributing to a growing, well-funded facility with strong opportunities for advancement on both the chemistry and production sides.
Responsibilities
- Perform chemical synthesis on a multi-kilogram scale and execute all operations in strict accordance with batch records.
- Maintain documentation to meet GMP requirements, including accurate recording of charges and transfers, acknowledging actions as they are performed, and documenting key observations related to specific operations.
- Set up, operate, and clean plant equipment such as reactors, centrifuges, filter dryers, shelf dryers, milling equipment, and related systems.
- Participate in staging of raw materials, including organizing and preparing materials for production runs.
- Load raw materials into equipment and unload intermediates and finished products from dryers and other processing equipment.
- Work closely with Chemical Engineers to produce R&D API and support scale-up activities from development to production.
- Read and interpret technical documents and batch records, ensuring accurate execution of instructions and compliance with quality standards.
- Write routine reports and correspondence to document production activities, deviations, and observations.
- Communicate effectively in group settings, including shift meetings and cross-functional discussions with production, engineering, and quality teams.
- Follow GMP, GLP, and internal quality procedures to ensure consistent product quality and regulatory compliance.
- Perform manual compounding and blending operations as needed for pharmaceutical production.
- Handle chemicals using appropriate engineering controls and safety procedures, including use of a respirator when required.
- Apply mechanical aptitude to troubleshoot basic equipment issues and support routine maintenance tasks within the scope of the role.
- Use computer systems and software to complete batch documentation, track materials, and support production and quality processes.
- Manage multiple tasks and production priorities during the shift while maintaining flexibility and adaptability to changing schedules and demands.
- Adhere to all safety, environmental, and facility protocols, including participation in required physicals and screenings.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma
- 2+ Years of experience in a production facility, such as chemical, pharmaceutical, or food manufacturing, preferred.
- 2+ Years of experience as a chemical operator, batch mixer, or compounder.
- Experience working in pharmaceutical manufacturing or with API production is a plus.
- Experience working with reactors in a manufacturing or pilot plant setting is a plus.
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Morton Grove, IL.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $23.00 - $30.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
