Job Description
The Lead Maintenance Technician ensures the reliable performance of production equipment in a clean, climate-controlled food manufacturing environment. This role focuses on troubleshooting mechanical and basic electrical issues, executing preventive and corrective maintenance, and driving continuous improvement to maximize line efficiency and equipment uptime. The Lead Technician operates and maintains all assigned systems, uses the CMMS to manage work orders and documentation, and collaborates closely with maintenance and production teams. This position also provides leadership and mentoring to maintenance staff, supports the development of procedures, and ensures strict adherence to safety, quality, GMP, and food-manufacturing standards while fostering strong teamwork across shifts.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the reliable performance of production equipment by troubleshooting mechanical and basic electrical concerns and completing scheduled work orders.
- Execute preventive maintenance inspections and corrective work orders during maintenance windows to prevent mechanical and electrical breakdowns on line equipment.
- Operate, set up, start up, adjust, shut down, and perform changeovers on all equipment in the assigned area in accordance with company standards.
- Utilize the CMMS to create notifications, manage, perform, and confirm completed work orders, and hold the maintenance crew accountable for proper system use.
- Participate in the development and improvement of documented maintenance procedures within the CMMS.
- Develop and implement equipment improvements using lessons learned from emergent work to prevent recurring equipment failures.
- Troubleshoot hydraulic, pneumatic, and steam processes to identify failure points and perform repairs on those systems.
- Apply knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic systems, including cylinders, valves, accumulators, compressors, and pipefitting, to maintain and repair equipment.
- Read and interpret blueprints to support maintenance tasks and equipment modifications.
- Support or perform fabrication of small machine parts, guards, and related components as needed.
- Mentor and guide maintenance team members, providing technical support and leadership in a fast-paced production environment.
- Collaborate closely with production and maintenance teams to optimize line efficiency, equipment uptime, and overall operational performance.
- Ensure adherence to safety, quality, GMP, and food-manufacturing standards in all maintenance activities.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on equipment reliability, maintenance processes, and overall plant performance.
- Work the 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Monday–Friday shift and be willing and able to work overtime, including weekends, to support business requirements.
Essential Skills
- Proven experience performing maintenance in a food manufacturing environment, including work with cylinders, valves, and related mechanical components.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve equipment issues efficiently.
- Basic electrical troubleshooting skills, including the ability to identify and correct electrical problems on production equipment.
- Experience with PLC troubleshooting to support equipment diagnostics and repairs.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints to guide maintenance and equipment modification activities.
- Proficiency in using a CMMS to create notifications, manage work orders, and document maintenance activities.
- Knowledge of GMP practices and food safety principles in a manufacturing environment.
- Understanding of preventive maintenance scheduling and execution to reduce equipment downtime.
- At least 3 years of experience in a leadership role within maintenance or a related technical function.
- Ability to operate, set up, start up, adjust, shut down, and change over production equipment in accordance with established procedures.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in a GMP-regulated environment with an understanding of food safety practices in manufacturing.
- Knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic systems, including operation and repair of cylinders, valves, accumulators, compressors, and associated pipefitting.
- Ability to troubleshoot hydraulic, pneumatic, and steam processes for failure points and implement effective repairs.
- Experience in the fabrication of small machine parts, guards, and similar components is preferred.
- Experience in developing and improving documented maintenance procedures within a CMMS.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and hold a maintenance crew accountable for process and system use.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced production environment and collaborating across shifts.
- Strong commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement in a manufacturing setting.

Work Environment
The role is based in a clean, climate-controlled manufacturing facility that operates under GMP and food safety standards. The standard shift runs from 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with the expectation of overtime, including weekends, as business needs arise. The environment centers on modern, new production equipment and the use of a CMMS for maintenance management. Work is performed on and around mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and steam systems, with a strong emphasis on safety, cleanliness, and organized operations.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Permanent position based out of Whitehall, OH.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $32.00 - $37.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
