Job Description
The Project Designer works across sales, engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain to efficiently translate customer orders into accurate, assembly-ready solutions. This role focuses on turning product designs into structured bills of materials (BOMs), supporting assembly operations, coordinating with vendors on component timelines, and resolving production and customer concerns by identifying alternative solutions and providing clear technical clarification. The Project Designer is instrumental in developing and implementing new tools such as product configuration, Smart BOMs, CAD models, and construction diagrams, and plays a key role in continuous improvement of both products and processes.
Responsibilities- Coordinate the flow of information from customer orders to structured, assembly-ready BOMs.
- Create and update BOMs for build-to-order systems within the ERP system.
- Review orders for accuracy and completeness and follow up with customers, sales, and engineering as needed.
- Support manufacturing by addressing BOM accuracy issues and processing changes in a timely manner.
- Collaborate with engineering to identify, correct, and improve historic BOM inaccuracies and structures.
- Use 3D CAD software to develop customer drawings, exploded assembly views, and detailed parts lists that feed into BOMs.
- Support the supply chain team by identifying custom components for specific jobs and following up on their status and timelines.
- Work cross-functionally with engineering, sales, production, and supply chain to develop and refine continuous improvement ideas for processes and products.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of new tools such as product configuration systems, Smart BOMs, CAD standards, and construction diagrams.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with stakeholders across the organization and with customers to resolve questions and provide technical clarification.
- Associate degree in CAD Technology or Product Design.
- Hands-on experience creating and managing bills of materials (BOMs).
- Proficiency in 3D CAD, including designing and creating models and drawings.
- Experience working with ERP systems to manage orders, BOMs, and related data.
- Strong and effective communication skills, with the ability to work closely with customers, sales, engineering, production, and supply chain teams.
- Comfort interacting with people across different departments and in both office and shop floor environments.
- Experience with Inventor, SolidWorks, and/or AutoCAD.
- Familiarity with pumps, hydronic systems, and related mechanical equipment.
- Basic understanding of electrical systems, including wiring and controls.
- Experience with Infor ERP systems or similar platforms.
- Interest in growing into a broader engineering role over time.
- Motivation to participate in continuous improvement initiatives and adopt new tools and technologies.
The Project Designer works in a collaborative engineering-focused environment alongside a team of seven engineers, including mechanical and electrical specialists. The role spends approximately 80–90% of the time at a desk designing, creating orders, and managing BOMs in CAD and ERP systems, with the remaining time spent on the shop floor fielding questions, supporting production, and clarifying technical details. The location has around 45 employees in total, with a mix of shop floor and office-based roles, creating a close-knit, cross-functional culture. The organization designs and builds high-quality condensate return pumps, boiler feed systems, vacuum systems, and related accessories, ranging from custom-engineered solutions to compact standard products. The position offers 10 days of paid time off and 6 standard holidays, and after six months, access to Udemy courses covering CAD, BOMs, ERP, and related topics to support ongoing professional development. Dress is generally appropriate for a professional engineering and manufacturing environment, with time split between office and shop floor settings.
