Maintenance Technician
Job Description
This Maintenance Technician role operates in an aluminum extrusion manufacturing environment and is responsible for all aspects of plant and equipment maintenance. The position focuses on preventive maintenance, reactive maintenance, and facilities-related repairs to keep production running efficiently. You will work on aluminum extrusion machines as well as CNC equipment, brake presses, lasers, and powder coating machines, ensuring reliable operation of both mechanical and electrical systems.
Responsibilities- Perform reactive maintenance throughout the shift to keep production equipment running and minimize downtime.
- Participate in daily passover meetings to review ongoing issues, prioritize work, and coordinate with production teams.
- Diagnose and repair issues on aluminum extrusion machines, including 3-phase 480V motors, servo motors, AC/DC motors, hydraulics, pneumatics, conveyors, extruders, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and gearboxes.
- Conduct preventive maintenance tasks such as greasing bearings, tightening bolts, and inspecting mechanical and electrical components.
- Troubleshoot and resolve PLC-controlled machine issues to restore proper operation.
- Read and interpret ladder logic diagrams and electrical schematics to identify faults and perform accurate repairs.
- Perform electrical maintenance and repair on 3-phase systems, control boxes, and related power and control circuits.
- Maintain and repair mechanical systems, including hydraulic and pneumatic components, to ensure safe and efficient operation.
- Support major preventive maintenance programs twice per year by performing thorough inspections, repairs, and component replacements.
- Assist with facilities maintenance tasks as needed to support the overall operation of the plant.
- Work collaboratively with production and maintenance teams to prioritize work orders and communicate equipment status.
- Document maintenance activities and repairs to support equipment history and continuous improvement efforts.
- Strong experience in industrial maintenance within a manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in PLC troubleshooting on production equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret ladder logic diagrams.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics for troubleshooting and repair.
- Hands-on hydraulic maintenance and repair experience.
- Solid understanding of 480V three-phase power systems and control boxes.
- Experience with electrical troubleshooting on motors, drives, and control circuits.
- Mechanical aptitude for working with gearboxes, conveyors, and other mechanical systems.
- Experience with pneumatics, including troubleshooting valves, cylinders, and air lines.
- Ability to perform preventive maintenance tasks such as greasing bearings and tightening fasteners.
- Capability to troubleshoot and repair 3-phase motors, servo motors, and AC/DC motors.
- Comfort working with industrial equipment such as extruders, VFDs, and related machinery.
- Strong troubleshooting skills across electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Welding skills for repair and fabrication are preferred.
- Facilities maintenance experience is a plus.
- Previous experience with aluminum extrusion equipment is highly beneficial.
- Experience with die casting machines or plastic injection molding presses is advantageous.
- Ability to work across multiple shifts and participate in an on-call program as it is implemented.

Work EnvironmentThe role is based in an industrial manufacturing facility focused on aluminum extrusion and related processes. You will work regularly on the production floor, supporting equipment such as extrusion machines, CNCs, brake presses, lasers, and powder coating systems. Expect to work 8–10 hour days with participation in an on-call program as it is implemented. Major preventive maintenance programs occur twice a year, typically in July and December, requiring focused effort on inspections and repairs. The facility operates on three shifts: 1st shift from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., 2nd shift from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. (with one or two technicians assigned), and 3rd shift from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. (with one or two technicians assigned). The dress code requires jeans and steel-toe footwear to support safety and durability in the industrial environment.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Cassopolis, MI.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $27.00 - $35.00/hr.
