Job Description
The Safety Ambassador (Field Robot Operator) serves as the on-site safety representative for autonomous delivery robot operations. This role focuses on safely escorting delivery robots, maintaining public and operational safety, monitoring robot performance, responding to incidents, and representing the organization professionally in the field. The position also involves coordinating and completing project and program activities related to robot operations, ensuring that objectives are met on time and to a high standard.
Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough pre-shift inspections of vehicles, robots, batteries, controllers, and communication equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation.
- Verify robot readiness before each deployment and review planned routes in collaboration with Remote Operators.
- Escort autonomous delivery robots throughout their routes and maintain continuous visual monitoring to ensure safety and proper operation.
- Perform battery changes and basic field maintenance on robots and related equipment as needed.
- Identify potential hazards in the operating environment and execute appropriate safety interventions to prevent incidents.
- Respond promptly to incidents, connectivity failures, and public interactions, taking appropriate action to safeguard people, property, and equipment.
- Prepare clear and accurate incident reports, shift summaries, and operational feedback to support ongoing safety and performance improvements.
- Support hub operations and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives related to autonomous delivery and field safety.
- Coordinate and complete project and program activities associated with autonomous delivery operations, ensuring that objectives, timelines, and quality standards are met.
- Set project and program deadlines, assign responsibilities, and monitor progress to ensure successful completion.
- Summarize project and program status and prepare reports for senior leadership regarding performance, issues, and outcomes.
- Rely on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish operational and project goals, performing a variety of tasks as needed.
- Lead and direct the work of others involved in robot operations or related projects, fostering effective teamwork and accountability.
- Apply creativity and latitude in problem solving and decision making to enhance safety, efficiency, and customer service.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support safe, reliable, and customer-focused autonomous delivery services.

- At least 7 years of experience in the field or in a related area, with familiarity with a variety of concepts, practices, and procedures.

Work Environment
The role begins with a morning check-in at a distribution center, where the Safety Ambassador reviews equipment, plans routes, and aligns with hub operations. The position involves traveling to delivery sites in a van and working primarily in the field, supervising robots during deliveries and interacting with the public as needed. Work is conducted outdoors and on foot over extended distances, requiring comfort with varying weather conditions and active movement throughout the shift. The environment is technology-driven, with regular use of mobile devices, remote-control equipment, and communication tools to manage autonomous delivery operations. Dress is expected to be practical and professional, suitable for an active, safety-focused role in both distribution center and outdoor settings.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Austin, TX.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $40.00 - $40.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
