Job Description
The Lab Technician – Quality Control performs analytical testing on finished products and incoming raw materials to ensure they meet established quality standards. This role focuses on routine laboratory analysis, accurate data entry, and support for certificates of analysis within a manufacturing quality laboratory.
Responsibilities
- Perform quality control testing on finished product materials and incoming raw materials in accordance with established procedures and specifications.
- Run analytical tests such as titrations, refractive index measurements, viscosity testing, and sand testing to verify product quality.
- Operate laboratory instrumentation including auto titrators, refractive index equipment, and gas chromatography (GC) systems as required.
- Assist in preparing and verifying certificates of analysis, ensuring all test results and documentation are accurate and complete.
- Accurately record and enter test data into laboratory and quality systems, maintaining clear and organized records.
- Follow standard operating procedures and quality protocols to maintain consistency and reliability of test results.
- Collaborate with team members in the quality lab and manufacturing environment to support production and resolve quality-related issues.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized laboratory workspace and adhere to all safety guidelines and best practices.
- Monitor samples during testing and report any deviations, anomalies, or non-conforming results to appropriate personnel.
- Contribute to continuous improvement efforts in laboratory methods, workflows, and documentation practices.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in a science discipline such as chemistry, physics, biology, forensic science, biochemistry, or a closely related scientific field.
- Hands-on laboratory experience performing tests such as titrations, refractive index measurements, viscosity testing, and sample testing.
- Ability to operate laboratory instruments including auto titrators, refractive index equipment, and gas chromatography (GC) systems.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow precise procedures and accurately document results.
- Ability to work effectively as a team player in a laboratory and manufacturing environment.
- Foundational knowledge in chemistry, biology, physics, or related sciences sufficient to understand and perform quality control testing.
- Comfort working with quality control processes and standards in a production or manufacturing context.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in a quality control or quality assurance laboratory within a manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with certificates of analysis and related quality documentation practices.
- Experience with general sample testing and basic laboratory science techniques.
- Forensic science or biochemistry is beneficial for complex analytical work.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tests and samples simultaneously.
- Effective communication skills to share findings and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Work Environment
This position is based in a manufacturing facility, working primarily in the quality laboratory. The role involves regular use of laboratory instruments such as auto titrators, refractive index measurement equipment, and gas chromatography systems, along with routine handling of samples and chemicals. The standard schedule is on 2nd shift, typically from 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. Other laboratory schedules in the facility may include 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. or 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with occasional Saturday availability (approximately two Saturdays per month, though this has not been needed recently). The environment combines production operations with a dedicated quality lab, requiring adherence to safety procedures, appropriate laboratory attire, and careful handling of materials and equipment.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Cleveland, OH.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
