Job Description
The Material Technician supports warehouse and yard operations by accurately counting inventory, receiving deliveries, preparing material orders, and loading and unloading furniture and materials. This role ensures all items are checked for accuracy and may use a tablet to document materials through photos. The position works closely with the materials manager and other team members to maintain efficient, organized, and safe material handling processes. Standard hours are typically 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. with two 10‑minute breaks and a 30‑minute lunch, and summer schedules may shift to 5:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., requiring flexibility with start times and daily assignments.
Responsibilities
- Count and verify inventory levels to ensure accuracy and proper stock management.
- Receive deliveries and verify incoming materials against documentation for accuracy and completeness.
- Prepare material orders for internal and external needs, ensuring correct items and quantities are staged and ready.
- Load and unload furniture and other materials safely from trucks, trailers, and other vehicles.
- Inspect materials and furniture for damage or discrepancies and report issues promptly.
- Use a tablet or similar device (such as an iPad) to take pictures and document materials and inventory as needed.
- Handle materials throughout the warehouse, shop, yard, and trailers using proper material handling techniques.
- Support shipping and receiving activities, including labeling, organizing, and tracking materials.
- Operate or work around forklifts and other material handling equipment in a safe manner, if required.
- Collaborate regularly with the materials manager and other team members to coordinate daily tasks and priorities.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in both indoor and outdoor environments.
- Follow all safety policies and procedures, including the proper use of personal protective equipment.
- Demonstrate flexibility with work hours and daily assignments based on operational needs.
Essential Skills
- Proven experience in inventory control and warehouse operations, including counting and verifying stock.
- Hands-on experience with material handling, including loading and unloading furniture and other materials.
- Ability to perform shipping and receiving tasks, including checking deliveries for accuracy.
- Comfort using tablets or similar devices (such as an iPad) to take photos and document inventory.
- Capability to work in both indoor shop areas and outdoor yard environments in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to work inside trailers that may not be temperature controlled.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy when checking materials and orders.
- Reliability and consistency in attendance and performance.
- Ability to follow instructions and report regularly to supervisory staff.
- Willingness to work early shifts starting as early as 5:00 a.m., with flexibility for schedule changes.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience as a material specialist or in a similar material handling role.
- Experience operating forklifts or other material handling equipment.
- Familiarity with shipping and receiving processes, including documentation and tracking.
- Bilingual English/Spanish language skills are a plus.
- Ability to use basic hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Ownership of steel-toe boots, a tool bag, and basic hand/power tools.

Work Environment
This role is based in both indoor and outdoor settings, including a shop, yard, and inside trailers that may not have air conditioning. Temperatures can vary widely, with hot and cold conditions depending on the weather, so comfort working in changing environments is important. The dress code includes steel‑toe boots, work pants, and a t‑shirt; protective glasses and gloves are provided. You must bring your own steel‑toe boots, tool bag, and basic hand and power tools. The environment is active and physically demanding, with regular material handling, loading and unloading, and movement between indoor and outdoor areas, all supported by established safety procedures.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fontana, CA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $23.00 - $23.00/hr.
