Job Description
The Shipping Associate assembles and prepares custom crates for outgoing products and handles shipping and receiving activities. This role combines hands-on mechanical assembly with shipping operations, requiring the ability to build custom shipping crates using saws and hand tools and then coordinate shipment through major carriers. The position operates on 1st shift from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Responsibilities
- Build custom shipping crates by hand around finished products, ensuring secure and accurate fit for safe transport.
- Use saws, nail guns, tape measures, and other hand tools to cut, assemble, and fasten crate components according to specifications.
- Measure materials precisely and verify dimensions to maintain quality and consistency in crate construction.
- Work efficiently to complete each crate, typically within approximately 45 minutes, while maintaining high workmanship standards.
- Handle shipping activities, including preparing packages and coordinating shipments through carriers such as FedEx and UPS.
- Support receiving activities as needed, including checking incoming materials and organizing inventory.
- Think creatively and solve problems on the spot when building crates for unique or complex finished products.
- Train to operate a forklift and use it to move materials, finished products, and completed crates safely within the facility.
- Maintain a clean, organized work area and follow all safety procedures when using saws, nail guns, and other equipment.
- Work collaboratively with team members across different product lines to meet daily production and shipping goals.
Essential Skills
- Mechanical aptitude and comfort with hands-on assembly work.
- Experience with construction or similar work involving building structures or assemblies.
- Ability to operate saws, nail guns, and a variety of hand tools safely and accurately.
- Proficiency in using a tape measure and reading basic measurements for cutting and assembly.
- Experience in shipping and receiving processes, including preparing and handling outgoing and incoming materials.
- Ability to think creatively and troubleshoot when building custom crates around various finished products.
- Willingness to train on and operate a forklift in a safe and compliant manner.
- Capability to work on feet for most of the shift while building crates and handling shipping tasks.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Construction experience, particularly in building or assembling structures, is strongly preferred.
- Prior experience in shipping and receiving environments is beneficial.
- Previous forklift experience is a plus and may support faster onboarding to material handling tasks.
- Mechanically inclined mindset with interest in working with tools and equipment.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and adapt to different product lines.
- Steel-toe footwear is required in the facility.

Work Environment
The facility is well organized and features two main sides dedicated to different product lines, including instrumentation and filtration. The environment is non-temperature-controlled yet generally comfortable, without extreme heat or cold. Work is primarily performed on the shop floor using saws, nail guns, hand tools, tape measures, and forklifts, with a focus on safety and efficient material flow. Employees are expected to wear steel-toe footwear and work in a hands-on, industrial setting during 1st shift hours from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Strongsville, OH.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $21.00 - $21.00/hr.
