Job Description
This role focuses on packing hummus and salsa products in a high-volume food and beverage production facility. You will work in refrigerated areas, operate filling and packaging equipment, and follow strict food safety and quality standards while ensuring products are accurately filled, labeled, and prepared for shipment.
Responsibilities
- Operate filler machines that dispense hummus and salsa into plastic containers according to established procedures.
- Perform visual inspections of products and packaging to ensure quality, accuracy, and adherence to food safety standards.
- Adjust product weights using scales to meet specified requirements, including adding or removing product as needed.
- Pack finished containers into boxes or trays, apply labels, and prepare items for storage or shipment.
- Use basic hand tools and production equipment safely and effectively as part of the packaging process.
- Navigate and use computers or digital interfaces to enter production data, follow work instructions, or manage machine settings.
- Move continuously throughout the shift, managing multiple tasks at once in a fast-paced production environment.
- Follow all personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements, including wearing lab coats, hair nets, rubber gloves, beard nets, and other gear in food areas.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, supporting sanitation and hygiene standards in the food and beverage environment.
- Collaborate with team members and follow direction from production leadership to meet daily production goals and schedules.
Essential Skills
- Ability to perform visual inspection of products and packaging to identify defects or inconsistencies.
- Capability to lift up to 40 pounds repeatedly during the shift.
- Comfort using a computer or smart device, including navigating between applications and screens.
- Experience working on your feet for extended periods while handling multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Experience using a scale and understanding weights, including adding, subtracting, and adjusting product to meet specifications.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- In food and beverage production is beneficial, but experience in other industrial or automotive environments is also valuable.
- Familiarity with industrial equipment such as filling machines and mixers, especially those that run on pneumatics and hydraulics with valves and hoses.
- Strong reliability and consistent attendance, with dependable transportation to support shift requirements.

Work Environment
The role is based in a food and beverage production facility where hummus and salsa are made and packed. Most work takes place in refrigerated areas to maintain product quality and safety, so you should be comfortable working in a cold environment. You will be required to fully suit up in appropriate PPE, including a lab coat, hair net, beard net as applicable, rubber gloves, and other protective gear while in food production areas. The schedule follows three shifts: 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., and 10:30 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Work is primarily Monday through Friday, with mandatory Saturdays and potential Sunday work depending on production needs. The environment is fast-paced, physically active, and focused on maintaining strict food safety and cleanliness standards.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ferndale, MI.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $14.00 - $14.50/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
