The Controls Technician provides advanced technical support for manufacturing equipment and facility automation systems by performing electrical and control troubleshooting, installations, and preventive maintenance. This role focuses on diagnosing faults in PLC and HMI systems, analyzing complex electrical circuits, assembling and wiring control panels and devices, and maintaining system performance and backups while ensuring strict adherence to safety and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities
  • Provide technical control and electrical troubleshooting support for manufacturing equipment, mechanical lines, and facility automation controls.
  • Diagnose faults in PLC and HMI systems and replace faulty automation components to restore reliable operation.
  • Read and interpret complex electrical schematics to trace signals and voltage across machines and automation systems.
  • Assemble, install, and wire new control panels, sensors, and electrical devices according to engineering and safety requirements.
  • Perform testing, calibration, and preventive maintenance on control systems to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
  • Manage system backups and maintain documentation for PLC programs, HMI configurations, and control system changes.
  • Execute small-scale PLC program updates and logic modifications to improve machine efficiency and process performance.
  • Support and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and robotic components as they relate to automation and control systems.
  • Provide service support for automation equipment, including investigating recurring issues and implementing corrective actions.
  • Follow and enforce Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), OSHA, and NEC regulations and internal safety procedures at all times.
  • Collaborate with maintenance, production, and engineering teams to resolve complex control issues and implement improvements.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area and ensure tools, test equipment, and materials are used and stored safely.
Essential Skills
  • Four to six years of experience handling large automation systems, network wiring, and process control theory.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills for manufacturing equipment and automation systems.
  • Deep knowledge of AC and DC circuits, including relays, contactors, and Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs).
  • Proficiency in PLC troubleshooting and programming, including small-scale logic modifications.
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley PLC platforms and related automation hardware.
  • Ability to configure and support I/O devices and HMI logic for automated systems.
  • Solid understanding of hydraulics and pneumatics as they relate to automated machinery.
  • Hands-on experience with robotics in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Strong service mindset with the ability to respond quickly and effectively to equipment issues.
  • Commitment to following LOTO, OSHA, NEC, and other applicable safety and regulatory standards.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience in preventive maintenance programs for automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Familiarity with system backup procedures and documentation for PLC and HMI configurations.
  • Comfort working with network wiring and industrial communication between control devices.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional maintenance, production, and engineering teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for diagnosing complex automation and electrical issues.
  • Effective communication skills to explain technical findings and recommended solutions.
  • Attention to detail and a methodical approach to testing, calibration, and system adjustments.

Work Environment

The role is based in a new, clean, climate-controlled manufacturing facility designed to support both comfort and safety. Work is performed around automated production equipment, control panels, sensors, robotics, and related electrical and mechanical systems. Team members typically work a day shift, focusing on maintenance, troubleshooting, and improvements in a controlled environment with organized workspaces and access to appropriate tools and test equipment.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Erlanger, KY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $42.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
