This role leads the maintenance function in a manufacturing and heavy industrial environment, with a strong focus on reducing machine downtime, improving preventive maintenance compliance, and developing the skills of the maintenance team. The Maintenance Manager oversees a team of technicians and leaders, drives continuous improvement in maintenance processes, and ensures equipment reliability to support production, particularly in blanking and stamping operations.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the maintenance department, including overseeing approximately eight maintenance technicians, one maintenance supervisor, and one maintenance team lead.
- Develop and mentor maintenance technicians to enhance their technical skills and overall performance.
- Analyze current machine downtime (currently averaging 11 hours per day) and implement strategies to significantly reduce downtime and improve equipment reliability.
- Ensure preventive maintenance (PM) schedules are completed on time and work to eliminate the current backlog of PMs (currently 111 PMs behind).
- Establish and maintain accurate tracking and documentation of all machine downtime, including causes, corrective actions, and trends.
- Take ownership of ordering and organizing the purchasing of machine parts so that parts usage and inventory are properly tracked and controlled.
- Be available on call 24/7 as needed to support critical maintenance issues and minimize impact on production.
- Plan, coordinate, and deliver training or set up training programs for maintenance personnel to improve mechanical, electrical, safety, and troubleshooting capabilities.
- Promote and enforce safety practices within the maintenance team, ensuring that work is performed in accordance with safety standards and procedures.
- Collaborate with production and other departments to align maintenance priorities with operational needs and to support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Use mechanical, electrical, and PLC troubleshooting skills to support complex equipment issues and guide technicians through problem resolution.
- Review maintenance processes regularly and recommend improvements to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and extend equipment life.
- Maintain a strong focus on the ultimate goal of reducing machine downtime and ensuring machines are properly maintained through effective PM programs.
Essential Skills
- At least 5 years of maintenance management experience in a manufacturing or heavy industrial environment.
- Experience working with blanking or stamping operations in a production setting.
- Proven supervision and management experience leading maintenance teams.
- Strong mechanical skills, including hands-on experience with hydraulics and pneumatics.
- Electrical skills with the ability to troubleshoot electrical systems and components.
- Experience with PLC troubleshooting in an industrial environment.
- Solid maintenance troubleshooting skills across mechanical and electrical systems.
- Millwright-level abilities or equivalent experience working with industrial machinery and equipment.
- Ability to track, document, and analyze machine downtime and maintenance activities.
- Willingness to be on call 24/7 as needed to support critical maintenance requirements.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety and adherence to safety procedures in an industrial setting.
- Ability to read and work from blueprints and technical documentation.
- Good, stable work history demonstrating reliability and long-term commitment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in a flat roll steel processing plant or similar heavy industrial environment.
- Experience in Tier One automotive supply or working with automotive OEM production standards.
- Familiarity with maintenance management practices focused on reducing downtime and improving PM compliance.
- Ability to organize and manage purchasing and inventory of machine parts.
- Experience setting up and coordinating training programs for maintenance personnel.
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with technicians, supervisors, and cross-functional teams.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, when starting out to address maintenance backlogs and downtime issues.
- Comfort working in a clean, high-volume manufacturing environment with strict quality and reliability requirements.

Work Environment
The facility is a flat roll steel processing plant that produces blanking sheets for automotive hoods and truck beds. It operates as a Tier One supplier in the automotive industry, with a focus on quality and reliability. For the steel industry, this is a very clean environment, reflecting a strong emphasis on organized operations and safe working conditions. Work is performed around heavy industrial machinery, including blanking and stamping equipment, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and PLC-controlled production lines. The role requires flexibility in working hours, including being on call as needed, and involves close collaboration with production and maintenance teams on the shop floor.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Permanent position based out of Jeffersonville, IN.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $120000.00/yr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
