Job Description
This role is ideal for a skilled and reliable Assembler who enjoys hands-on work with mechanical and electrical components. You will modify commercial HVAC units to meet detailed customer specifications, working from engineering drawings and blueprints to install, assemble, and integrate various components. The position is based in Addison, IL and involves both mechanical and electrical assembly, testing, and troubleshooting to ensure each unit meets strict quality, safety, and performance standards.
Responsibilities
- Modify commercial HVAC units based on detailed customer specifications and engineering drawings.
- Install and assemble components such as raw valves, copper piping, electrical controls, variable frequency drives (VFDs), fans and blowers, and wiring panels.
- Perform mechanical and electrical assembly work on incoming units, primarily received from Trane.
- Interpret blueprints, schematics, and work instructions accurately to complete assigned tasks.
- Ensure all modifications meet established quality, safety, and performance standards.
- Test assembled units for proper functionality and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues as needed.
- Use tape measures, hand tools, power tools, and assembly equipment safely and effectively.
- Operate production and assembly line machinery as required for the job.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area throughout the shift.
- Collaborate with team members, supervisors, and engineering staff to ensure timely completion of projects.
- Perform general production, mechanical assembly, and machine operating tasks as needed.
- Follow all workplace safety guidelines and report any hazards or equipment issues promptly.
Essential Skills
- Proven ability to perform mechanical and electrical assembly work on industrial or commercial equipment.
- Proficiency using tape measures for accurate measurements.
- Experience working with hand tools and power tools in an assembly or production environment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and written work instructions.
- Basic understanding of electrical wiring and mechanical systems.
- Capability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues on assembled units.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods during the shift.
- Reliable attendance and a strong work ethic.
- Comfort working around galvanized steel and in an industrial setting.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in mechanical assembly, general production, or assembly line work.
- Experience with machine operation or machine operating in a manufacturing or job shop environment.
- Familiarity with general labor tasks in an industrial setting.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and communicate clearly with coworkers and supervisors.
- Willingness to learn new assembly techniques and adapt to changing project requirements.

Work Environment
The position is based in an industrial job shop environment in Addison, IL. Available shifts include 1st shift from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 2nd shift from 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The facility is a typical industrial setting that can be hot, dirty, and not optimally lit at times, with regular exposure to galvanized steel and other metal components. Employees work with hand tools, power tools, assembly equipment, and production machinery, and should be comfortable in a physically demanding, fast-paced environment where safety procedures and appropriate industrial attire are essential.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Addison, IL.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
