Job Description
The Sensors Test Engineering team in Burnsville, Minnesota is seeking a Software Engineer to support the design, development, testing, troubleshooting, and integration of software solutions used in the production and validation of commercial and military sensor products. This role offers the opportunity to work in a high-tech aerospace manufacturing environment, collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams to develop innovative test software and automated test systems that ensure product quality and reliability.
Responsibilities
Develop, maintain, and enhance software applications that support sensor production and test systems.
Design, implement, and test software solutions used for manufacturing and automated testing of aerospace products.
Troubleshoot and resolve software and hardware issues affecting test equipment and production systems.
Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and operators to support manufacturing and product test activities.
Create and maintain software documentation, test procedures, and test cases.
Assist in the integration of software with automated test equipment, including oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, signal generators, power supplies, and environmental test systems.
Participate in software design reviews, code reviews, and testing activities to ensure product quality and maintainability.
Support validation and verification efforts for software applications and test systems.
Contribute to process improvements that enhance test efficiency, product quality, and manufacturing productivity.
Analyze test data and investigate failures to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.
Support the full software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
Work within Agile development processes and contribute to project planning and status discussions.
Learn and apply best practices for software development, test automation, and system integration in a regulated aerospace environment.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or another STEM-related field.
Minimum of 1 year of professional software engineering experience, internship experience, co-op experience, or equivalent hands-on project experience.
Experience programming in one or more languages such as C#, Visual Basic (VB.NET), Python, or similar object-oriented languages.
Basic understanding of software design, testing methodologies, debugging, and version control practices.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues in software and hardware environments.
Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced engineering environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with LabVIEW development or test automation software.
Familiarity with software-controlled test equipment and data acquisition systems.
Exposure to manufacturing, test engineering, aerospace, defense, or other highly regulated industries.
Knowledge of electronics fundamentals, including digital and analog circuits.
Experience writing test plans, test procedures, and test cases.
Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and tools such as Jira.
Understanding of source control systems such as Git or Azure DevOps.
Exposure to application lifecycle management and software quality processes.
Experience with communication protocols such as RS-232, RS-485, CAN, ARINC, MIL-STD-1553, or similar interfaces is a plus.
Demonstrated curiosity, willingness to learn, and hands-on problem-solving mindset.
This position is based in Burnsville, Minnesota and supports the development and production testing of advanced aerospace sensor systems. The role involves collaboration with engineering, operations, and manufacturing teams in both laboratory and production environments. Engineers in this role work with software-controlled test equipment, automated test systems, and modern software development tools while contributing to the delivery of high-quality aerospace products. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Burnsville, MN.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $38.00 - $46.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
