Front Desk Medical Assistant – Infectious Disease Practice

Job Description

This role combines front desk responsibilities with hands-on clinical support in an infectious disease teaching practice. You will room patients, take vital signs, and accurately chart in the electronic medical record while providing compassionate, efficient patient care in a fast-paced outpatient environment.

Responsibilities

• Welcome patients at the front desk, assist with check-in procedures, and help ensure a smooth patient flow through the clinic.
• Room patients promptly and prepare exam rooms for visits, ensuring supplies and equipment are ready for use.
• Obtain and document accurate vital signs and basic patient information prior to the provider visit.
• Chart patient information, clinical data, and visit details in the electronic medical record using Epic.
• Support providers and medical assistants in delivering high-quality patient care in an infectious disease practice.
• Coordinate with clinical staff to manage a high daily patient volume while maintaining attention to detail and patient safety.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked environment across approximately 14 exam rooms.
• Collaborate with a team of medical assistants and other clinical staff to provide efficient, patient-centered service.
• Follow established clinical protocols and safety procedures appropriate for an infectious disease setting.

Essential Skills

• At least 3 years of experience as a medical assistant or in a similar clinical support role.
• Proficiency using Epic electronic medical record for charting and documentation.
• Strong skills in rooming patients, taking vital signs, and documenting clinical information accurately.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Demonstrated ability to provide safe, compassionate patient care in a busy outpatient environment.
• Ability to work efficiently in a high-volume clinical setting while maintaining accuracy and professionalism.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) credential or equivalent medical assisting certification is preferred.
• Experience working in an infectious disease clinic or specialty practice is a plus.
• Background in a teaching or academic medical environment is beneficial.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with patients and clinical staff.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team of medical assistants and healthcare professionals.

Work Environment

The clinic operates Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and includes about 14 exam rooms supported by a team of around nine medical assistants. You will work in a team-oriented environment that relies on Epic for electronic medical records and standard clinical equipment for patient care. The setting is professional, with an emphasis on efficiency, collaboration, and high-quality patient service.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of St. Louis, MO.

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $22.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

This is a fully onsite position in St. Louis,MO.
