The Concrete Carpenter constructs, erects, installs, and repairs structures and fixtures made of wood, plywood, and wallboard to create concrete forms for building structures. Using a variety of hand and power tools, this role focuses on building, assembling, and maintaining formwork that is filled with concrete to produce durable structural elements. The position requires reliable transportation, strong dependability, and a commitment to working safely and efficiently on an active construction site.

Responsibilities
  • Construct, erect, install, and repair wooden structures and fixtures used as concrete forms for building projects.
  • Measure and mark cutting lines on materials using rulers, pencils, chalk, and marking gauges to ensure accurate layout.
  • Shape or cut materials to precise measurements and assemble boards, timber, or plywood to the required size for formwork.
  • Build wooden forms in the exact shape of the structure, securing them with nails, bolts, screws, or anchor rods using hand tools, machines, or power saws.
  • Follow established safety rules, regulations, and procedures while maintaining a safe and clean work environment.
  • Study specifications in blueprints, sketches, or building plans to prepare project layouts and determine required dimensions, shapes, designs, and materials.
  • Remove damaged or defective parts or sections of wooden structures and repair or replace them using appropriate hand tools.
  • Perform concrete-related tasks such as supporting concrete pours, concrete finishing, and other concrete work as needed.
  • Utilize Symon Forms to build, set, and strip concrete forms for retaining walls and other structural elements.
  • Plan the sequence of work to support efficient construction progress and meet project timelines.
  • Check completed work to ensure that all structures are level, plumb, and square, meeting quality and specification requirements.
Essential Skills
  • Hands-on experience with concrete construction, including concrete forms, concrete pours, concrete finishing, and general concrete work.
  • Proficiency working with Symon Forms or similar concrete form systems.
  • Knowledge of commercial construction practices, procedures, techniques, tools, equipment, materials, specifications, quality control, cost control, and safety standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and building plans to determine layout, dimensions, and material requirements.
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills to perform accurate material estimates and measurements.
  • Skill in using carpentry tools such as hand saws, electric saws, drills, and other related hand and power tools.
  • Attention to detail with the ability to verify that work is level, plumb, and square.
  • Organizational skills to plan the sequence of work and coordinate tasks effectively.
  • Reliable transportation and a dependable work ethic.
  • Commitment to following safety rules and maintaining a clean, orderly work environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 1–5 years of experience in concrete carpentry, formwork, or related construction roles.
  • Experience working on commercial construction sites, particularly large-scale projects such as apartment complexes.
  • Familiarity with quality control and cost control practices in construction.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a construction crew and communicate clearly with team members.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to address issues with formwork, materials, or site conditions.

Work Environment

This role is based on an active construction site in Franklin, TN, where a large apartment complex is under development. The current project involves building a substantial concrete retaining wall using Symon Forms, with repeated cycles of form building, concrete pouring, curing, and form removal. The team completes approximately 200 feet of wall per pour, with a total of 2,500 feet planned and the project about halfway complete. Work is performed outdoors in typical construction conditions, requiring comfort with physical labor, exposure to the elements, and adherence to site safety protocols. The position follows a day-shift schedule, Monday through Friday, within a structured and safety-conscious environment that uses standard construction tools, equipment, and materials.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Franklin, TN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $30.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
