CNC Machinist
Job Description
This role is a hands-on CNC mill setup operator position in a high-volume manufacturing environment. You will set up and run multiple CNC HAAS milling machines, perform precision quality checks, and make program edits using G&M code to ensure parts meet exact specifications throughout production.
Responsibilities- Retrieve raw materials from the staging area and prepare them for machining.
- Load bar stock and various types of metals into CNC HAAS milling machines.
- Set up and run a cell containing three CNC machines, completing approximately three full setups per day.
- Run the first piece for each setup and perform 100% quality inspection of the part.
- Run production parts and perform quality checks on at least one part every hour.
- Use micrometers, calipers, gauges, and profiling tools to ensure all parts meet specification.
- Maintain tight tolerances and consistently hold dimensions to +/- 0.005 inches.
- Utilize G&M code on Fanuc controls to make program edits when necessary to improve part quality or process efficiency.
- Read and interpret blueprints and prints to determine machining requirements and verify part conformity.
- Troubleshoot machining issues, perform changeovers, and adjust processes to maintain productivity and quality.
- Use live tooling as required to complete complex machining operations.
- Support a clean, organized, and safe work area in a busy machining department with extensive equipment.
- Minimum 3 years of CNC setup and operation experience on milling machines.
- At least 3 years of experience reading and working from prints and blueprints.
- Proficiency in CNC mill setup, troubleshooting, and changeover in a production environment.
- Ability to use G&M code to edit programs on Fanuc controls.
- Experience using live tooling on CNC equipment.
- Strong blueprint and print reading skills for dimensional and feature verification.
- Solid quality inspection experience using micrometers, calipers, gauges, and profiling tools.
- Ability to consistently hold tight tolerances to +/- 0.005 inches.
- Hands-on experience with CNC milling operations and basic lathe knowledge.
- Conversational programming experience on CNC controls is a plus.
- Experience with Swiss CNC machining is beneficial.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, high-volume machining environment.
- Attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills in manufacturing settings.

Work EnvironmentThe work environment is a clean, well-lit manufacturing facility with more than 75 pieces of machining equipment. The first shift runs Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and the second shift runs from 3:30 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. on four 10-hour days. You can expect to work around 50 hours per week. The setting is production-focused with CNC HAAS mills and Fanuc controls in regular use. The dress code requires jeans, steel-toe footwear, high-visibility clothing, and safety glasses to ensure a safe and compliant shop floor.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of La Porte, IN.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $23.00 - $25.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
