Production Planner/Buyer
Job Description
This role combines production planning and purchasing responsibilities to ensure that inventory levels, production schedules, and supplier relationships support uninterrupted operations and cost-effective procurement. You will use MRP and ERP systems to manage inventory, issue work orders and purchase orders, coordinate with vendors, and help optimize supply chain performance in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Responsibilities- Use MRP systems to maintain accurate inventory levels of finished products and components by issuing work orders and purchase orders as needed.
- Develop and maintain consistent production schedules that support target inventory levels and on-time delivery.
- Issue purchase orders to vendors in a timely and accurate manner to ensure continuous supply of materials.
- Maintain close working relationships with existing vendors to support reliable delivery, quality, and service.
- Identify and develop alternative suppliers for key items to reduce risk and increase flexibility in the supply chain.
- Conduct price and contract negotiations with suppliers to maximize purchasing flexibility and achieve cost savings.
- Monitor market trends, pricing changes, and supply chain risks, and take timely action to prevent interruptions in supply.
- Collaborate with internal teams to align production planning and purchasing activities with operational needs and business goals.
- Use Excel and ERP tools to analyze data, track orders, and report on inventory, purchasing, and production metrics.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of planning and purchasing processes by suggesting and implementing practical solutions.
- 3–5 years of production planning and/or purchasing experience.
- Strong knowledge of MRP systems and their application to inventory and production planning.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct effective price and contract negotiations.
- Knowledge of ERP systems and their use in purchasing and planning workflows.
- Proficiency with Excel for data analysis, reporting, and tracking.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
- Teamwork-oriented attitude with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to think creatively and "out of the box" to solve problems and manage supply chain risks.
- Experience with production scheduling, purchasing, procurement, and purchase order management.
- Previous experience in an electromechanical assembly facility and/or machine shop is a plus.
- Experience building and maintaining strong vendor relationships.
- Background in monitoring market trends and supply chain risks.
- Comfort working with cross-functional teams to align production and purchasing activities.
- Ability to support continuous improvement initiatives in planning and procurement processes.
You will join a small, collaborative team of four, with plans to add at least one more team member, possibly two. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $65000.00 - $75000.00/yr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
