Job Title: Commercial Carpenter

Job Description

This role focuses on delivering high-quality commercial carpentry work across a variety of construction projects, including office buildings, retail spaces, healthcare facilities, schools, warehouses, and tenant fit-outs. You will work both independently and as part of a team, ensuring that all tasks meet rigorous workmanship and safety standards while supporting successful project completion.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a full range of commercial carpentry tasks, including framing, drywall backing, blocking, installation of doors, frames, hardware, millwork, and finish carpentry.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and project specifications to plan and execute work accurately.
  • Measure, cut, and install building materials in accordance with project requirements and construction standards.
  • Construct and install walls, partitions, ceilings, and other structural components for commercial spaces.
  • Complete renovations, tenant improvements, and build-outs in occupied and unoccupied commercial environments.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized job site, following all safety procedures and best practices.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Collaborate closely with project managers, superintendents, and other trades to meet project schedules and deadlines.
  • Ensure all work complies with company quality standards, building codes, and safety regulations.
  • Assist with general construction activities such as loading, unloading, packing, and material handling when needed.
  • Support concrete-related tasks, assembly, and general production work associated with commercial construction projects.
  • Use tape measures and other measuring tools accurately to verify dimensions and layout.
  • Contribute to site cleanliness, including debris removal and basic cleaning tasks to maintain a professional work environment.

Essential Skills

  • 5+ years of commercial carpentry experience preferred, with a strong track record on office, retail, healthcare, educational, warehouse, and tenant improvement projects.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction drawings and blueprints.
  • Hands-on experience with metal stud framing and drywall systems in commercial settings.
  • Skill in installing doors, frames, and hardware to meet commercial construction standards.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial construction methods, building practices, and safety procedures.
  • Ability to operate hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Comfort working with concrete and related construction materials as part of broader project scopes.
  • Reliable transportation and the ability to travel to and work at various job sites.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and familiarity with electrical considerations relevant to carpentry work.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred, demonstrating commitment to safety.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience performing finish carpentry work in commercial environments, including detailed millwork and trim installation.
  • Experience in general labor and general production within construction or industrial settings.
  • Ability to assist with solar-related construction tasks when required.
  • Experience with material handling activities such as loading, unloading, picking, packing, and packaging.
  • Familiarity with operating forklifts or similar material-handling equipment, where permitted and applicable.
  • Strong attention to detail when using tape measures and other measuring tools.
  • Capability to support cleaning and site maintenance to uphold professional standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a coordinated project team.
  • Willingness to work overtime when needed to support project timelines.
  • OSHA 30 certification is a plus and may enhance safety leadership on site.

You will work primarily on commercial construction sites, including office buildings, retail spaces, healthcare facilities, schools, warehouses, and tenant fit-outs. The role involves active, hands-on work using a wide range of hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment, as well as working with materials such as lumber, metal studs, drywall, concrete, doors, frames, hardware, and millwork. Hours may vary by project and can include opportunities for overtime to meet deadlines. The environment is fast-paced and safety-focused, with strict adherence to OSHA guidelines and company safety policies. You can expect to move between different job sites, work both indoors and outdoors, and collaborate closely with project teams and other trades while maintaining a professional appearance appropriate for commercial construction settings

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Centereach, NY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
