Job Title: Planner 1 – Electrical Maintenance

Job Description

The Planner 1 – Electrical Maintenance role focuses on planning, scheduling, and coordinating electrical maintenance activities to support a world-class facilities maintenance organization. This position serves as an electrical subject matter expert, ensuring that preventive and corrective maintenance work is efficiently planned, properly resourced, and executed in alignment with standardized business processes and asset management systems. The role is partially client-facing but primarily supports internal facilities teams, technicians, and schedulers.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and schedule all electrical maintenance activities, including preventive and corrective work, for assigned facilities and equipment.
  • Coordinate daily operations of electrical activities and align maintenance tasks with labor availability to optimize workload and inventory.
  • Use industry and client best practices to plan, schedule, coordinate, and assign all frequency and work-type maintenance activities for the responsible group or team.
  • Develop and manage maintenance plans for UPS units, VFD units, generators, automatic transfer switches (ATS), and equipment in central utility plants.
  • Collaborate closely with facilities managers, technicians, schedulers, and subcontractor counterparts to ensure successful completion of maintenance and electrical installation work.
  • Create, manage, and track work orders, including developing spreadsheets for equipment entry and providing work order support to technicians.
  • Manage the asset maintenance parts ordering process (MRO) for assigned teams, including creating all asset-related purchase requisitions and ensuring purchase orders are created and approved before scheduling work.
  • Optimize maintenance inventory and parts usage through strategies such as preventive maintenance auto-ordering where applicable.
  • Collect data and work with operations teams to analyze maintenance metrics, work order flow, and project demands to continuously improve planning and scheduling processes.
  • Maintain maintenance record compliance with asset management and maintenance business process standards and specifications through periodic data auditing.
  • Track all asset information, including spare parts, documentation, and booked labor hours, to ensure accurate and complete records.
  • Arrange for special tools and equipment required for maintenance and electrical work, ensuring readiness before execution.
  • Submit and document database record changes using the client’s change request system to maintain data integrity and standardization.
  • Create and run ad hoc reports and work requests for complex data needs; develop advanced queries and dashboards when required.
  • Facilitate and attend team and operations meetings to communicate daily and weekly maintenance plans and schedules.
  • Provide weekly reports to facility managers, identifying risks and gaps in maintenance programs and proposing resolution plans.
  • Maintain liaison with facilities technicians and other management regarding work execution, schedule adjustments, and manpower status.
  • Identify risks to facilities and work proactively to eliminate downtime through effective maintenance planning and safety practices.
  • Administer and ensure adherence to applicable environmental, health, and safety programs, including compliance with work practices and basic safety protocols such as job hazard analysis, confined space, and hot work procedures.
  • Complete all assigned training requirements in a timely manner and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Conduct improvement assessments and produce documentation to support enhancements in maintenance processes and asset management.
  • Support preparation of business operations documents, reports, and other deliverables related to maintenance and asset management.
  • Assist internal departments such as Communications, Finance, Human Resources, Sourcing, Human Experience, Program Management, and EHS as needed with maintenance-related information and coordination.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum 5 years of direct experience in the electrical trade, facilities operations, and customer service.
  • In-depth electrical subject matter expertise in facilities planning and scheduling.
  • Strong technical knowledge of enterprise asset management systems (EAMS), asset management tools, and MRO systems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, including Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint, and solid personal computer skills with both hardware and software.
  • Knowledge of scheduling software, procurement systems, and databases, with the ability to learn new applications quickly.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple maintenance activities simultaneously.
  • Leadership capabilities in training, presentations, team building, and project management.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of management and with both technical and non-technical personnel.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative management style to support a multi-disciplinary team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and interpret reports, submit work requests, and work with complex data sets.
  • Clear commitment to safety for self and others, with an understanding of basic safety protocols related to electrical and facilities work.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience as an electrical planner or in electrical maintenance planning within facilities environments.
  • in preventive maintenance and facilities maintenance for critical electrical infrastructure such as UPS, VFDs, generators, ATS, and central utility plant equipment.
  • Ability to write advanced queries and develop dashboards in asset management or reporting tools.
  • Experience coordinating vendors and contractors for electrical installations and maintenance work.
  • Familiarity with GMP and code compliance requirements for electrical installations.
  • Ability to develop and maintain spreadsheets for equipment data entry and work order tracking.
  • Experience producing improvement assessments and process documentation for maintenance operations.
  • Comfort working in a partially client-facing role while primarily supporting internal facilities and operations teams.
  • Positive, professional demeanor with strong inter-team dynamics and the ability to build productive working relationships.
  • Ability to adapt to standardized business processes and comply with client standards and specifications to ensure database integrity and consistent practices.

Work Environment

This role is based on-site in a facilities environment with free parking available. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with the possibility of overtime and weekend work when maintenance demands require it. You work closely with facilities managers, technicians, schedulers, and subcontractors in an operational setting that relies on enterprise asset management systems, maintenance planning tools, and the full Microsoft Office suite. The workplace emphasizes adherence to environmental, health, and safety programs, including proper procedures for job hazard analysis, confined space, and hot work. The environment is structured, process-driven, and focused on reliable electrical and facilities operations, offering a professional atmosphere where clear communication and teamwork are essential.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Thousand Oaks, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $29.00 - $39.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
