Job Description
The Food Service Aide plays a key role in the hospital cafeteria, taking customer orders, preparing meals, and delivering exceptional customer service. This position ensures that food safety and hygiene procedures are consistently followed while supporting day-to-day foodservice operations, including order processing for staff and general cafeteria duties.
Responsibilities
- Take customer and staff orders accurately and efficiently in a hospital cafeteria setting.
- Prepare meals and food items according to established recipes, portion standards, and presentation guidelines.
- Provide exceptional customer service by responding to questions, resolving issues, and ensuring a positive dining experience.
- Process staff orders and transactions using the designated systems or processes.
- Ensure adherence to all food safety, sanitation, and hygiene procedures throughout food handling and preparation.
- Assist with food preparation tasks such as assembling trays, portioning food, and preparing ingredients.
- Support tray line operations, including assembling and delivering meal trays as needed.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, serving areas, and cafeteria, including regular cleaning of equipment, surfaces, and utensils.
- Perform general labor and hospitality tasks to support the smooth operation of the foodservice area.
- Follow all hospital and cafeteria policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
- Work collaboratively with team members to ensure timely service during peak periods.
- Flexibly support both first and second shifts, including required weekend morning shifts.
Essential Skills
- Experience in foodservice or cafeteria operations, including food preparation and handling.
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of customers and staff.
- Knowledge of basic food safety, sanitation, and hygiene practices.
- Ability to accurately take and process orders and transactions.
- Capability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks.
- Reliability and willingness to work required shifts, including weekends.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience as a kitchen helper, general laborer, or in hospitality settings.
- Experience in tray line operations or hospital foodservice is an asset.
- Comfort working in a cafeteria or similar foodservice environment.
- Attention to detail in food presentation and cleanliness.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.

Work Environment
The role is based in a hospital cafeteria setting, supporting both customers and staff. You will work around kitchen equipment, food preparation areas, and tray lines, following hospital safety and hygiene standards. Shifts include first and second shift with flexible hours, typically 5:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. or 12:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., with weekend morning shifts required. The environment is fast-paced, service-oriented, and focused on cleanliness, safety, and professional conduct.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Los Angeles, CA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $24.00 - $24.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
