Job Description

The Quality Technician on 1st shift plays a key role in ensuring that manufacturing processes, products, and quality systems meet stringent industry and customer requirements. This position focuses on conducting internal audits, supporting inspection activities, and driving continuous improvement within a precision machining environment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct internal audits of manufacturing processes, quality systems, and documentation to ensure compliance with IATF, ISO 9001, and customer-specific requirements.
  • Perform process, product, and system audits, including layer audits and compliance audits, to verify adherence to established standards.
  • Participate in or support customer, supplier, and third-party audits by providing accurate quality data and documentation.
  • Verify adherence to control plans, work instructions, standard operating procedures, and inspection plans across production areas.
  • Identify nonconformances, document audit findings, and track corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) through to completion.
  • Review and verify the effectiveness of corrective actions to prevent recurrence of quality issues.
  • Maintain comprehensive audit records, reports, and quality documentation in accordance with quality management system requirements.
  • Ensure calibration and inspection records for gauges, measuring equipment, and related tools are accurate, current, and properly maintained.
  • Audit machining processes, including CNC operations, tooling, fixturing, and measurement methods, to confirm process capability and consistency.
  • Review inspection techniques related to GD&T, first article inspections (FAI), in-process inspections, and final inspections to ensure proper application.
  • Collaborate closely with Quality Engineers, Production, Engineering, and Supply Chain teams to resolve quality issues and improve processes.
  • Identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement within manufacturing and quality systems using audit results and quality data.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on scrap reduction, defect prevention, and enhanced process capability.
  • Perform visual inspections and dimensional checks using calipers, micrometers, gauges, CMMs, and other measurement tools to verify product conformance.
  • Interpret blueprints and technical drawings to validate that parts meet all specified requirements and tolerances.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 2 years of quality auditing or quality assurance experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience working in precision machining and/or automotive manufacturing settings.
  • Working knowledge of IATF and ISO 9001 standards and their application within manufacturing quality systems.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T principles, blueprint reading, and inspection methods.
  • Hands-on experience using measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and CMMs.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications for reporting, data analysis, and documentation.
  • Experience working within quality management systems to manage audits, nonconformances, and corrective actions.
  • Solid experience in quality control, quality inspection, and quality assurance activities in production environments.
  • Ability to perform visual inspections and use gauges and other tools to conduct detailed quality checks.
  • Knowledge of CNC machining processes, tooling, fixturing, and measurement methods used in precision manufacturing.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience supporting customer, supplier, and third-party audits.
  • Familiarity with automotive quality tools and methodologies.
  • Experience in continuous improvement and quality improvement initiatives, including scrap reduction and defect prevention.
  • Ability to analyze quality data to identify trends and risks within manufacturing processes.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and record-keeping.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with cross-functional teams in Production, Engineering, Quality, and Supply Chain.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Kentwood, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $49920.00 - $52000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
