This Assembler role supports the remanufacturing of high‑quality, reliable transmissions by preparing parts, building subassemblies, and assembling complete units on a fast‑paced production line. Depending on assignment, you may focus on sub assembly work or full transmission building, ensuring that all components meet strict quality standards and that production demands are consistently met through efficient, collaborative work.

Responsibilities
  • Inspect transmission parts and components thoroughly to ensure they meet established quality standards and specifications.
  • Clean parts and subassemblies to prepare them for use in the remanufacturing and production process.
  • Assemble transmission subassemblies and complete transmissions by following documented processes, procedures, and work instructions.
  • Read and interpret work orders and prints to determine required parts, assembly steps, and quality checkpoints.
  • Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively to perform assembly, repair, and mechanical tasks.
  • Work efficiently on the production line to meet daily output goals and support smooth, continuous operations.
  • Collaborate with and assist other team members to coordinate workflow and ensure production demands are met.
  • Apply mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills to identify basic assembly or component issues and help resolve them.
  • Handle and assemble smaller gears and precision components with care and attention to detail.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area in a shop environment that may include oil, transmission fluid, and occasional slippery surfaces.
  • Follow all safety guidelines, including use of required personal protective equipment such as steel‑toe footwear, safety glasses, and ear plugs.
Essential Skills
  • At least 2 years of mechanical assembly experience in a similar field.
  • Proven experience working with mechanical components, including gears and transmission parts.
  • Ability to work with smaller gears and precision components with consistent accuracy.
  • Ability to read and follow work orders, prints, and written procedures.
  • Hands‑on experience using hand tools and power tools in an assembly or repair environment.
  • Mechanical aptitude and basic mechanical troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience in assembly work in a production or shop environment.
  • Automotive or transmission‑related experience is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced, production‑line setting while maintaining quality standards.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Background in automotive assembly, repair, or related mechanical trades.
  • Comfort working with oil, transmission fluid, and in areas that may be dirty or slippery at times.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high‑quality, reliable products.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills to support line operations and collaborate with colleagues.
  • Ability to adapt to different transmission lines and changing product types throughout the day.
  • Willingness to follow established processes and continuous improvement practices.

Work Environment

This role is based in a shop environment dedicated to transmission remanufacturing, where the workspace may smell like oil and transmission fluid and can be dirty or slippery at times. The production area is climate controlled year‑round, including a facility located in a restructured retail space, providing a comfortable temperature regardless of season. Multiple production lines focus on specific business needs, including lines that handle different transmissions throughout the day and a dedicated 6L line for remanufacturing GM 6L transmissions in a uniform, fast‑paced setting. The standard schedule is first shift, Monday through Friday, from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The dress code requires steel‑toe footwear, safety glasses, and ear plugs, with adherence to all safety protocols to ensure a secure working environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Milwaukee, WI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
