Job Title: CNC Machinist – 3rd Shift (3-Axis Milling)

Job Description

This hands-on role is ideal for a skilled and detail-oriented CNC Machinist / Programmer who enjoys working on 3-axis vertical milling machines. You will set up, program, and operate CNC equipment, perform precision measurements, and ensure components meet exact specifications. The position is on 3rd shift from 4:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. and plays a key role in supporting a high-quality, production-focused manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, program, and operate 3-axis CNC vertical milling machines to produce precision components according to engineering specifications.
  • Align, level, and securely rig holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, and raw materials onto machines to ensure safe and accurate machining.
  • Interpret advanced blueprints and technical drawings, applying Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles to achieve required dimensions and tolerances.
  • Calculate exact dimensions and tolerances using mathematics and precision measuring instruments such as micrometers and calipers.
  • Perform basic G and M code edits at the machine controller to correct dimensional variances and improve part accuracy.
  • Select appropriate tooling and cutting parameters for each job, perform tool offsets, and change worn inserts as needed to maintain optimal machining performance.
  • Manage and adjust machine attachments and fixtures to support efficient setups and changeovers.
  • Conduct in-process inspections to verify part quality and compliance with blueprint specifications.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, following shop standards and best practices.
  • Perform basic daily preventative maintenance on CNC machines to support reliability and minimize downtime.

Essential Skills

  • Hands-on experience setting up and operating 3-axis CNC vertical milling machines.
  • Proficiency in CNC machine setup, including fixturing, tooling, and establishing work offsets.
  • Ability to interpret advanced blueprints and engineering drawings.
  • Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Experience with micrometers, calipers, and other precision measurement tools for comparing parts to blueprints.
  • Capability to perform basic G and M code edits at the machine controller to resolve dimensional issues.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail in a production machining environment.
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent trade school training.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with mill machining in a manufacturing or job shop setting.
  • Experience in CNC programming or program editing for 3-axis milling operations.
  • Comfort working independently on 3rd shift from 4:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m.
  • Ability to apply basic mathematics for machining calculations and quality checks.
  • Trade school coursework or apprenticeships related to CNC machining or manufacturing technology.

Work Environment

The workspace is organized and maintained to support safe, efficient machining, with an emphasis on daily preventative maintenance and cleanliness. Dress code typically requires practical, shop-appropriate attire suitable for a manufacturing environment, including any necessary personal protective equipment as defined by shop safety standards.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Sand Lake, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40000.00 - $60000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
