Job Description
The Mechanical Assembler works under supervision to support the manufacturing of custom factory automation equipment and other fabricated assemblies. This role involves reading and interpreting technical drawings and written instructions, using common hand and power tools, and safely completing assigned tasks both independently and as part of a team. The Mechanical Assembler maintains an organized and tidy workspace, supports various manufacturing activities according to the production schedule, and occasionally travels to customer sites to assist with equipment installation.
Responsibilities
- Participate in the manufacturing and assembly of custom factory automation equipment and other fabricated assemblies according to technical drawings and written instructions.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and blueprints to understand assembly requirements and technical direction.
- Use common hand and power tools such as hammers, drills, wrenches, and other assembly tools to perform mechanical assembly tasks.
- Complete assigned tasks safely and efficiently, both independently and in collaboration with a team in a manufacturing environment.
- Maintain an organized, clean, and tidy workspace, including areas where parts, components, and equipment are stocked and stored.
- Support additional activities within the manufacturing operations as needed to meet production schedules and organizational goals.
- Follow instructions precisely, accept direction from supervisors and engineers, and ask questions to ensure full understanding of tasks and expectations.
- Consistently focus on maintaining a safe working environment, including reporting unsafe conditions and adhering to safety procedures.
- Travel as needed to customer locations in the Southeast to assist maintenance teams with installing and repairing equipment, including overnight and multi-day trips.
- Work overtime when required, which may include weekends, to meet project deadlines and support installation or manufacturing activities.
- Communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, to coordinate work with team members and understand technical documentation.
Essential Skills
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, engineering schematics, and blueprints.
- General knowledge of and ability to use common hand and power tools such as hammers, drills, and wrenches.
- Capability to follow instructions precisely and take direction from supervisors, designers, and engineers.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-based manufacturing environment.
- Strong focus on safety, including consistently ensuring a safe working environment and reporting unsafe conditions.
- Proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, writing, and understanding English.
- Willingness to work overtime, including possible weekend work, with a strong sense of urgency and self-discipline.
- Willingness and ability to travel as needed to customer sites to assist with equipment installation on trips typically lasting 2–5 days.
- Valid driver’s license that is maintained in good standing.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Approximately 1 year of experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment preferred.
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Huntsville, AL.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
