Assembly Technician
Job Description
This role offers the opportunity to work in a small, clean job shop environment, assembling custom mechanical and electrical products. As an Assembly Technician on 1st shift, you will read blueprints and production documents, use hand and power tools, and support both assembly and fabrication activities to help deliver high-quality, custom-built equipment.
Responsibilities- Read and interpret blueprints and schematics to assemble mechanical and electrical components accurately.
- Use hand tools and power tools to build and assemble products according to specifications.
- Utilize a computer to track and update production orders and workflow status.
- Measure and mark steel using a tape measure to prepare materials for machine operations.
- Review and follow production documents to ensure correct assembly processes and quality standards.
- Assist the fabrication department by operating drill presses, saws, and other shop equipment as needed.
- Perform mechanical assembly, including fitting, fastening, and aligning components.
- Occasionally run electrical wire and perform basic electrical assembly for the final product.
- Support grinding and other fabrication-related tasks when required.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, following shop safety and housekeeping standards.
- Proven ability to read and interpret blueprints and production documents.
- Experience with mechanical and electrical assembly in a manufacturing or job shop environment.
- Proficiency using hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
- Ability to accurately measure and mark materials using a tape measure.
- Comfort working with fabrication processes such as drilling, sawing, and grinding.
- Basic understanding of electrical wiring and electrical assembly tasks.
- Ability to use a computer to track and update production orders.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
- Experience in custom assembly work, building products to unique specifications.
- Familiarity with schematics for mechanical or electrical systems.
- Background in fabrication and working within a job shop setting.
- Ability to adapt to growing production demands and changing priorities.

The environment emphasizes organization, cleanliness, and safety, with regular use of computers for production tracking and close collaboration with fabrication and assembly teams as the shop experiences ongoing growth.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Indianapolis, IN.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $22.00 - $23.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
