This role is for a Maintenance Technician in a high-speed manufacturing facility, responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing production equipment. The process involves extruding product through rollers, injecting chemicals, heating materials in ovens, slitting and sawing sheets to specification, and using robotic arms to stack and palletize finished goods for shipment. Each day, you receive work orders, respond to issues via radio, and ensure that all mechanical and electrical systems operate safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair production equipment in a high-speed manufacturing environment.
  • Monitor gauges, pressures, and other indicators in the chemical process to ensure accurate and safe material flow.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical components such as conveyors, rollers, pumps, blenders, and other moving parts.
  • Perform work on equipment powered by pneumatics and hydraulics, including troubleshooting and component replacement.
  • Use blueprints and electrical schematics daily to identify issues and guide repairs and modifications.
  • Complete preventive maintenance (PM) on all machines and equipment to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
  • Conduct full tear-downs and rebuilds of machinery as required to restore optimal operation.
  • Perform gear replacements, adjustments, and corrections for mechanical errors and misalignments.
  • Carry out basic panel wiring and work with servos, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and related control components.
  • Troubleshoot PLCs and associated electrical control systems to resolve equipment and process issues.
  • Respond to maintenance work orders and radio calls promptly and prioritize tasks to support continuous production.
  • Work safely around pinch points, heavy equipment, chemicals, and moving mechanical parts, following all safety procedures.
  • Collaborate closely with the maintenance team and production staff to support smooth operations and timely repairs.
  • Document maintenance activities and communicate equipment status and needs to supervisors and team members.
Essential Skills
  • 3–5 years of experience in an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Strong mechanical skills with solid troubleshooting and repair experience.
  • Experience working with pneumatics and hydraulics, including troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and electrical schematics, using them daily in maintenance tasks.
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical repair, including gear replacements and adjustments.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
  • Basic understanding of panel wiring, servos, PLCs, VFDs, and variable frequency drives.
  • Comfort working with 480V electrical systems and performing safe electrical troubleshooting.
  • Experience with pumps, compressors, and blenders in a manufacturing setting.
  • High school diploma required; technical school or higher education preferred.
  • Consistent work history demonstrating reliability and commitment in maintenance roles.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Technical school education or higher-level technical training in maintenance or industrial technology is preferred.
  • Experience with machine shop tools such as mills and lathes is beneficial.
  • Basic welding skills are a plus for equipment repair and fabrication.
  • Familiarity with PLC troubleshooting and programming concepts is advantageous.
  • Experience with Siemens or similar control platforms is helpful.
  • Background in preventive maintenance programs and documentation is valued.
  • Exposure to blueprint reading and interpretation from institutions such as technical colleges is beneficial.
  • Ability to work effectively in a mid-to-lower-level maintenance technician capacity while growing skills.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

Work Environment

The role is based in a manufacturing and warehouse environment with more than 75 employees across the office and production floor. The facility operates multiple production lines with equipment such as saws, slitters, conveyors, rollers, and robotic arms, and uses sit-down forklifts for material movement. It is an open-door facility with trucks frequently loading and unloading product, resulting in exposure to ambient and outdoor temperatures; conditions can be hot in the summer and cold in the winter, and candidates should be comfortable working in these environments. The work takes place inside an insulation manufacturing facility, with exposure to dust, chemicals, pinch points on moving mechanical parts, and heavy equipment operation, including forklifts. Safety procedures are emphasized to manage these conditions. The maintenance team operates in a collaborative, team-oriented setting where everyone communicates well, supports each other, and works together to ensure that maintenance tasks are completed efficiently and safely. Dress and personal protective equipment are aligned with typical industrial manufacturing standards, including appropriate workwear and safety gear suitable for working around machinery, dust, and chemicals.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of FRANKLIN PARK, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $30.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
