Job Title: Quality Engineer

Job Description

The Quality Engineer provides essential quality support and leadership for all new and existing products and processes within the plant. This role involves working closely with internal teams to uphold high quality standards by designing inspection procedures, developing control plans, completing root cause analysis, and managing the PPAP process. The Quality Engineer also maintains relationships with customers and suppliers, ensuring their inquiries and requirements are addressed promptly.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage essential QMS documents, Process Control Plans, Work Instructions, Inspection Plan, Gauge Instructions, GR&R plan, etc.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of new and existing programs through the APQP process.
  • Support product launches, engineering changes, and/or improvement changes, ensuring Quality systems are updated to compliance.
  • Prepare and submit Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) packages per customer requirements for new/existing products and process changes in a timely manner.
  • Complete dimensional reports, capability studies, and measurement systems analysis.
  • Lead problem-solving activities for internal/external issues and address and resolve customer concerns in their preferred format.
  • Perform internal audits to ensure conformance with IATF and customer-specific requirements.
  • Monitor Customer Specific Requirements and customer portals and update documentation as required to ensure compliance.
  • Conduct Product Process audits to ensure products are produced to customer specification and inspection activities are conducted in accordance with control plan requirements.
  • Train employees in all aspects of Quality inspections, including the use of gauges, fixtures, and in-depth instructions for final inspections, boundary samples, and procedures.
  • Organize and lead meetings to identify root causes and implement corrective actions for quality issues.
  • Understand customer issues, development, communication, and ensure adherence to Quality alerts.
  • Initiate claims to suppliers for defective materials.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.

Essential Skills

  • Knowledge of PPAP, 8D methodology, supplier quality, quality tools, and customer web-based systems.
  • Prior hands-on experience with testing equipment including but not limited to: depth gage, calipers, micrometer, tape measure, product gauges, and CMM preferred.
  • At least five years of experience in a Quality role performing similar responsibilities.
  • Experience in automotive, IATF, product launch, supplier quality, root cause analysis, and machining.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical area such as Operations Management, Manufacturing Management, Materials/Supply Chain, Engineering, etc., or eight years of directly relevant Quality/Manufacturing experience in lieu of a Bachelor's Degree.
  • High School Diploma or equivalency (HSED or GED).

Work Environment

The role requires a 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, primarily in an office environment with some time spent in the production area as required. Schedules and changes to working hours must be approved by the department manager and are subject to change. The work involves standing and walking, occasionally for long periods, within manufacturing facilities and may include heavy lifting up to 50 pounds. The typical manufacturing environment includes elevated noise levels, elevated temperatures near ovens and in summer, and proximity to moving equipment.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Pleasant Prairie, WI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $43.26 - $48.07/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
