Job Title: Revit Drafter

Job Description

The Revit Drafter plays a key role in designing modular commercial and industrial buildings from concept through construction. Based in a collaborative South Whitley, IN office, this position works within a flat engineering and design structure, managing projects from start to finish with support from engineering leadership as needed. The role focuses on creating modular construction documents for a wide variety of projects across the United States, including wood, steel-framed, and concrete block buildings, and integrating structural, MEP, and architectural elements into comprehensive plan sets.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and review client drawings ranging from simple sketches to detailed foundation and architectural plans, and translate them into complete modular building designs.
  • Create full, working plan sets for commercial modular construction that meet customer requirements and state approval standards in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Develop construction documents primarily using Revit (approximately 99% of designs) and ensure all drawings are accurate, coordinated, and ready for client review.
  • Incorporate structural, MEP, and architectural elements into modular designs, aligning with project specifications and construction practices.
  • Submit construction documents to clients for review, incorporate feedback, and make necessary adjustments to finalize design packages.
  • Prepare and organize documentation required for code approvals from state agencies across multiple states, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Apply ICC Building Code knowledge to verify that all designs meet relevant building codes and standards for safety and performance.
  • Collaborate closely with the construction team, providing clarification and design support as projects move from design into construction.
  • Visit the adjacent shop as needed to answer questions, observe fabrication activities, and ensure designs are practical and buildable.
  • Interact professionally with customers, co-workers, and state agencies, maintaining clear communication and strong working relationships.
  • Assist with review of shop drawings as needed to confirm alignment with design intent and project specifications.
  • Manage project documentation using Excel, maintaining accurate records and tracking information throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Participate in a collaborative drafting department of approximately five team members, contributing to a positive, production-focused culture.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency in Revit, including the ability to create accurate drawings and full construction document sets within the software.
  • Strong drafting and design skills with experience producing construction documents for building projects.
  • Ability to work with BIM workflows and coordinate structural, architectural, and MEP elements in a unified model.
  • Proficiency in Excel, including the ability to manage and track project documentation and data.
  • Solid communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams, external clients, and state agencies.
  • Understanding of ICC Building Codes and ability to apply code knowledge to ensure designs meet regulatory requirements.
  • General knowledge of structural design and architectural design principles as they relate to commercial and industrial buildings.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in the construction industry, either in design, BIM, or hands-on construction, with an understanding of how buildings are assembled and the processes involved.
  • Familiarity with modular construction and its unique design and documentation requirements.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, production-focused environment while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Interest in career growth into leadership roles, with opportunities to advance as the engineering and drafting team expands over the next 3–5 years.
  • Ability to manage projects from initial concept through construction, maintaining continuity and familiarity with each project.
  • Adaptability to work with a variety of building materials, including wood, steel, and concrete block.
