Hiring Sheet Metal Operators Near You

The Sheet Metal Helper supports the sheet metal department by safely maneuvering sheet metal parts, assisting brake operators and helpers, and ensuring parts are accurately staged and labeled according to reference drawings. This role actively contributes to quality, safety, and continuous improvement initiatives, including 5S practices, ISO procedures, and LEAN principles, while performing additional duties as needed to support production goals.

Pay: Up to $19.66/hour + Weekly Pay!

Responsibilities

  • Safely maneuver sheet metal parts and regularly lift and handle up to 50 pounds.
  • Assist brake operators and brake helpers in moving, positioning, and organizing sheet metal parts.
  • Stage parts for brake operators to ensure efficient workflow and minimize downtime.
  • Label parts accurately according to reference drawings and bill of material requirements.
  • Practice and sustain 5S methods to maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work area.
  • Follow all applicable ISO procedures, policies, and work instructions for the assigned area to support product quality and consistency.
  • Understand, support, and help drive LEAN principles within the department to improve processes and reduce waste.
  • Use simple math and basic hand-held measuring tools to verify part dimensions and ensure accuracy.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, reference drawings, and bills of material to perform tasks correctly.
  • Use critical measurement equipment such as micrometers, tape measures, dial calipers, squares, and protractors to confirm specifications.

Essential Skills

  • Ability to maneuver sheet metal parts and safely lift and handle up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • General knowledge of the construction of equipment related to evaporative heat transfer and thermal storage applications.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and reference drawings accurately.
  • Strong initiative and problem-solving skills, with the ability to take ownership of tasks.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with co-workers.
  • Working command of the English language, both written and spoken, to understand instructions and communicate clearly.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work professionally with representatives, customers, and field service co-workers.
  • Understanding of bills of material and how they relate to part labeling and staging.
  • Working knowledge of computers, including use of SAP or similar systems.
  • Ability to use simple math for measurements and calculations related to sheet metal work.
  • Proficiency with basic hand-held measuring tools such as tape measures and squares.
  • Ability to use critical measurement equipment, including micrometers, tape measures, dial calipers, squares, and protractors.

Work Environment

This role is based in a manufacturing facility where approximately 95% of the work is performed indoors. The noise level is typically loud, and hearing protection is required. Large bay doors are often open, which can expose you to seasonal weather conditions, such as cold temperatures in winter and heat in summer. Housekeeping is performed each shift, and you should expect to be dirty by the end of your shift due to the nature of sheet metal work. You must wear steel toe or composite toe boots, which you supply yourself. The company provides required personal protective equipment, including ear plugs, safety glasses or goggles (or side shields for approved prescription glasses), gloves, and arm shields. Tools needed for the job are issued on site, and you will work in a safety-focused environment that emphasizes proper use of equipment and adherence to PPE guidelines.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.66 - $19.66/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
