The Soldering Technician performs precise hand soldering, rework, and assembly of electronic components and printed circuit boards (PCBs), ensuring all work meets established quality, safety, and manufacturing standards. This role involves reading and interpreting technical documentation, inspecting solder joints, identifying and reporting nonconformances, and collaborating with production, quality, and engineering teams to support on-time delivery and continuous improvement in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities
  • Perform hand soldering and rework on electronic components and assemblies, including both through-hole and surface-mount technology (SMT).
  • Assemble, solder, and inspect PCBs in accordance with detailed work instructions, drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, assembly drawings, and written work instructions to complete tasks accurately and efficiently.
  • Inspect solder joints using visual inspection and magnification tools to verify compliance with internal and industry quality standards.
  • Identify, document, and report nonconforming materials, workmanship issues, and defects in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Perform rework, touch-up, and repair of solder defects to restore assemblies to required quality and functional standards.
  • Use appropriate hand tools and equipment safely and correctly while following electrostatic discharge (ESD) control procedures at all times.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workstation, adhering to housekeeping and safety expectations.
  • Follow established quality procedures, safety policies, and manufacturing standards throughout all production activities.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts and corrective action initiatives by providing feedback and implementing process enhancements.
  • Collaborate closely with production, quality, and engineering teams to meet production schedules and output targets.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned to support production and operational needs.
Essential Skills
  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED.
  • At least 2 years of experience in electronic assembly or soldering within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong hand-soldering skills, including both through-hole and surface-mount technology (SMT).
  • Ability to read and interpret assembly drawings, electrical schematics, and detailed work instructions.
  • Working knowledge of IPC standards, with IPC-A-610 experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with ESD procedures and proper handling of electronic components.
  • Strong attention to detail and a consistent commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately and reliably.
  • Basic computer skills and willingness to learn ERP or production tracking systems.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills for working with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, team-oriented manufacturing environment.
  • Availability to work rotating shifts and periodic overtime as required.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience performing detailed visual inspection of solder joints using magnification tools.
  • Background in PCB assembly and soldering in accordance with manufacturing specifications.
  • Comfort using a variety of hand tools and electronic assembly equipment.
  • Experience applying IPC-A-610 workmanship criteria in daily production activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and document nonconforming materials and workmanship issues.
  • Prior exposure to continuous improvement and corrective action processes in a manufacturing setting.
  • Strong organizational skills to maintain a clean and efficient workstation.
  • Proactive approach to learning new systems, tools, and processes in a production environment.

Work Environment

This role is based in a manufacturing facility focused on electronic assembly and soldering work. You primarily work on the 2nd shift from 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., Monday through the week, with periodic overtime as needed to meet production demands. The environment is fast-paced and team-oriented, with close collaboration among production, quality, and engineering personnel. Work is performed at an electronics workstation using hand tools, soldering equipment, magnification devices, and ESD control measures to protect sensitive components. Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area is expected at all times, in alignment with established safety, quality, and manufacturing standards.

This is a Contract position based out of Tempe, AZ.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
