Job Title: CNC Machinist

Job Description

This role focuses on setting up and operating CNC mills and lathes for short-run production, typically no more than 25 parts per job. You will work within CNC cells of multiple machines, interpret blueprints, adjust tooling and programs, and perform precise inspections to ensure parts meet specifications. The position combines hands-on machining, basic program adjustments, and routine maintenance in a high-quality manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC mills and lathes for short-run production, typically runs of 25 parts or fewer.
  • Work within CNC cells of 2–4 machines, setting up and operating all assigned machines efficiently.
  • Read and interpret blueprints to determine part specifications, tolerances, and required machine operations.
  • Independently perform CNC setups multiple times per week, including fixture installation, tool selection, and offset verification.
  • Perform multiple machine setups per day as needed to support production schedules.
  • Change tools and make minor adjustments to CNC programs to maintain part quality and productivity.
  • Inspect finished and in-process parts using micrometers, calipers, and other precision gauges to verify compliance with specifications.
  • Monitor machine performance and perform preventative maintenance on CNC equipment to minimize downtime.
  • Utilize G and M codes to understand and adjust basic CNC program functions when required.
  • Work with CNC controls such as Fanuc and similar systems to operate and adjust machines.
  • Collaborate with team members in the machine shop and assembly shop to meet production and quality goals.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with shop standards and procedures.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 2 years of CNC setup experience, with the ability to independently perform setups on your own (approximately 4 or more setups per week).
  • Demonstrated experience performing multiple CNC setups per day in a production environment.
  • At least 2 years of blueprint reading experience, including understanding dimensions, tolerances, and machining requirements.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience using micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring tools.
  • At least 1 year of experience changing tools on CNC mills or lathes.
  • Ability to set up and operate CNC mills and CNC lathes for short-run jobs.
  • Familiarity with G and M codes for CNC programming and operation.
  • Experience working with CNC controls such as Fanuc or similar systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, accurate parts.
  • Ability to work independently in CNC cells and manage multiple machines at once.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with CNC machining centers and turning centers such as Doosan, Haas, Cincinnati, and Mazak is a plus.
  • Basic CNC programming skills are considered an advantage.
  • Experience with good CNC controls and familiarity with advanced control features is beneficial.
  • Experience in machining for industries such as oil and gas, agriculture, industrial, marine, or hybrid applications is helpful.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make minor program and process adjustments to improve efficiency.
  • Willingness to learn and progress through defined skill levels within the organization.

Work Environment

The role is based in a machine shop and assembly shop setting, supporting products for oil and gas, agriculture, industrial, marine, and hybrid customers. There are openings on 1st shift (7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.) and 2nd shift (3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.), with a 10% shift premium for 2nd shift. New hires typically train on 1st shift for 6–9 months before moving to 2nd shift, and receive the shift premium even while training. The facility operates multiple CNC machines, including brands such as Doosan, Haas, Cincinnati, and Mazak, and uses controls like Fanuc. The environment is production-focused, with an emphasis on precision machining, safety, and collaboration among approximately 250 employees in the U.S., plus additional colleagues globally.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Sturtevant, WI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $29.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
